    • Among other things, a delivery catheter assembly for insertion into a patient's vasculature is disclosed. In particular embodiments, the assembly includes a catheter, an obturator, and a hub. The hub is configured to maintain the proximal end of the catheter thereon. The hub and the proximal end of the obturator are configured to securely engage each other until a physician desires to release the obturator from the hub. When the catheter and obturator are assembled, the distal ends of the catheter and the obturator are adjacent or substantially aligned. In one form, the distal end of the obturator is made of an echogenic material that is visible with sonography or ultrasound imaging. In another form, a plurality of echogenic markers is positioned along the obturator including the distal end of the obturator. Beneficially, the position of the catheter is determined by locating the obturator using sonography or ultrasound imaging.

    • An assembly for joining two vessel segments of a patient includes a coupler formed of adjoining coupler halves. Each coupler half includes an aperture for receiving an end of one of the vessel segments. One of the coupler halves includes a connector element configured for connection to the other coupler half. The vessel segments are alignable in the respective coupler halves such that a path for fluid flow is formed therebetween upon connection of the coupler halves. A probe is aligned in engagement with a coupler half for generating a signal corresponding to fluid flow through the path.

    • An assembly for joining two vessel segments of a patient comprises a coupler formed of adjoining coupler halves, and a cuff having a large diameter portion and a small diameter portion. Each of the coupler halves includes an aperture for receiving an end of one of the vessel segments. One of the coupler halves comprises a connector element sized and shaped for connection to the other coupler half. The vessel segments are alignable in the respective coupler halves such that a path for fluid flow is formed therebetween upon connection of the coupler halves. The large diameter portion of the cuff is positioned over at least a portion of the coupler, and the small diameter portion of the cuff is positioned over one of the vessel segments. The cuff further includes a probe positioned at the small diameter portion. The probe is positioned within the cuff in a manner such that a signal is receivable therein corresponding to fluid flow through the vessel segment.

    • A device for extracting an implanted elongated structure from biological tissue comprises a sheath having a plurality of lumens therein opening to the sheath distal end. First and second lumens are disposed along a wall of the sheath, and a third lumen is dimensioned to receive the elongated structure. The sheath wall having the first and second lumens disposed therein is alternately compressible and expandable responsive to a bend along a bending zone of the sheath. A first wire segment is positioned in the first lumen, and a second wire segment is positioned in the second lumen, wherein the respective proximal ends of the segments are affixed proximal to the bending zone. The respective wire segments extend distally in the respective first or second lumen a first distance beyond the distal end of the sheath when the bend compresses the wall surface generally adjacent the first and second lumens, and extend distally a second distance, less than the first distance, when the bend expands the wall surface.

    • There are disclosed embodiments of a system for retrieving a filter device from within a patient. A tube or sheath and one or more cables or other elongated members, which include a protrusion such as a bead at or adjacent a distal end, are movable with respect to each other. When the tube or sheath is adjacent a filter device, the cable or elongated member is extended so that the protrusion is between or through wires of the filter, and the protrusion is engaged to or between two or more of the wires. The filter is placed within the tube or sheath, as by retracting the cable or elongated member to pull the filter, by moving the tube or sheath over the cable or elongated member while it engages the filter under tension, or both.
