    • An inkjet printer whose ink discharge characteristic will rarely change even when used for a long period of time is developed. The inkjet printer has a pressure chamber and a piezoelectric actuator and a controller. The piezoelectric actuator has a first electrode, a first piezoelectric film, a second electrode, a second piezoelectric film, and a third electrode, and they are laminated together in this order. The piezoelectric actuator forms a portion of the wall defining the pressure chanter. The controller applies ink discharge signal between the first and second electrode, ink discharge signal comprises advanced voltage change from a predetermined voltage to the lower voltage and subsequent voltage change from the lower voltage to the predetermined voltage. Ink can be effectively discharged by applying the ink discharge signal, but the ink discharge signal could change piezoelectric characteristic in the second piezoelectric film due to the deformation of the first piezoelectric film. The additional signal applying the second piezoelectric film via the second and the third electrode can reduce the changes of the piezoelectric characteristic. As a result, changes of ink discharge characteristic can be prevented.

    • The lnkjet printer has a pressure chamber, a plezoelectric actuator, and a controller. The plezoelectrlc actuator has a piezoelectric film, a first electrode, a second electrode, and a third electrode. The first electrode, positioned in the region facing the pressure chamber, and the third electrode, positioned adjacent to the first electrode, are attached on one surface of the piezoeiectric film. The second electrode is attached on an opposite surface of the piezoelectric film and overlaps the first and third electrodes. To discharge ink, the controller applies an ink discharge signal between the first and second electrodes comprising an advanced voltage change from a predetermined voltage to the lower voltage and a subsequent voltage change from the lower voltage to the predetermined voltage. The controller also applies a peripheral signal between the second and thIrd electrodes to prevent changes in characteristics of the piezoelectrlc actuator that may affect ink discharge.

    • An inkjet head includes a cavity unit and a piezoelectric unit stacked on the cavity unit. The cavity unit has a plurality of ink pressure chambers and a plurality of nozzles being in fluid communication with respective ones of the ink pressure chambers. The piezoelectric unit includes a laminate of four piezoelectric layers and two common electrodes. The piezoelectric unit is provided with a plurality of driving electrodes formed on a top face thereof at positions corresponding to respective ones of the pressure chambers. One of the common electrodes is provided between the upper most piezoelectric layer and the piezoelectric layer immediately therebelow so as to extend substantially over the whole area defined between those two piezoelectric layers. The other common electrode is located between the lower most piezoelectric layer and the piezoelectric layer immediately thereabove so as to extend substantially over the whole area defined therebetween.

    • A layered unit provided with piezoelectric ceramics having an increased adhesive strength while lowering cell content in an adhesive layer, a method for producing the layered unit, and an ink jet printing head incorporated with such layered unit having improved ink emission precision and durability as well as suppressing occurrence of assembly failure at the time of producing the ink jet printing head. Ink can be discharged by applying the ink discharge signal, but the ink discharge signal may change piezoelectric characteristic because, within the piezoelectric film, a deformed portion which is sandwiched by the first and second electrode and a non-deformed portion which is not sandwiched by the first and second electrode appear. The controller also applies peripheral signal between the second and third electrode. The characteristic change of the piezoelectric actuator that may be caused by application of the ink discharge signal can be prevented by applying the peripheral signal to the non deformed portion. The change of ink discharge characteristic that is caused by the characteristic chance of the piezoelectric actuator can be prevented.
