    • A backlight module includes a light box and multiple real light sources. The light box has an opening and a plurality of substantially parallel grooves recessed from a bottom surface thereof. Each of the slots has a reflection curved surface. A light source allocation line is defined between every two adjacent grooves. The light source allocation lines are parallel to the grooves. The sum of shortest distances between any point of the reflection curved surface and the two adjacent light source allocation lines is substantially the same. In addition, the real light sources are alternately allocated in the light source allocation lines. A part of light emitted from each light source is reflected from the reflection curved surface to the light source allocation line in which no light source is allocated. Thereby, a virtual light source is formed on the light source allocation line that does not contain a real light source.

    • A method for forming a flat panel display includes disposing a light guide plate below a display panel, disposing at least one optical film between the display panel and the light guide plate, and disposing at least one illuminating device package in proximity to the light guide plate. The method for forming the illuminating device package includes forming a light emitting diode device over a substrate and forming a lens encapsulating the light emitting diode device. The lens includes two reflective surfaces disposed substantially symmetrically at either side of a central axis. The reflective surfaces is configured to reflect portions of light beams to at least one of the diffractive surfaces. The lens also includes a plurality of diffractive surfaces separating the reflective surfaces. The diffractive surfaces are configured to diffract the reflected light beams into a convergent angle. Each of the diffractive surfaces having a tilt angle respective to the central axis.

    • A flat panel display is provided. The flat panel display includes a display panel. A light guide plate is disposed below the display panel. At least one optical film is disposed between the display panel and the light guide plate. At least one illuminating device package is disposed in proximity to the side of the light guide plate. The illuminating device package includes an illuminating semiconductor device and a lens encapsulating the illuminating semiconductor device. The lens includes two reflective surfaces disposed at either side of a central axis. A plurality of diffractive surfaces are disposed between the reflective surfaces. Each of the diffractive surfaces has a tilt angle respective to the central axis. A first portion of light beams incident to each of the reflective surfaces is reflected to at least one diffractive surface and then diffracted and collected into a first convergent angle.

    • A direct-type backlight module includes a light-guide plate. The light-guide plate has a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface. The first surface has at least one first groove. The backlight module may also include at least one light source. The light source corresponds to the first groove so that light emitted from the light source is reflected by the first groove. One or more optical films may be disposed on the first surface of the light-guide plate and a reflector may be disposed below the second surface of the light-guide plate. With the light-guide plate in place, the overall thickness of the backlight module is reduced, and the lamp mura is avoided.

    • A flat panel display is provided. The flat panel includes at least one light emitting device having a light emitting semiconductor device and a lens. The lens includes two reflective surfaces which are disposed at both sides with respect to a central axis of the lens. Refractive surfaces connect with the respective reflective surfaces and have a tilt included angle with respect to the central axis. Each of the refractive surfaces continuously extends from the reflective surface along a direction toward the central axis. A Fresnel surface is configured between the refractive surfaces. Light rays emitted from the light emitting semiconductor device reach the lens. A portion of the light rays reaching each of the reflective surfaces is reflected to at least one of the refractive surfaces and the Fresnel surface. The reflected light rays are refracted and collected with a convergent angle.
