摘要： An armor system with a composite laminate having at least four alternating layers (two bi-layers) of a first material and a second material, the first material having a lower acoustic impedance than the second material. The first material is a viscoelastic polymer with a glass transition temperature less than the expected operational temperature range, and the second material can be a hard material such as steel, aluminum, or ceramic. The laminate can include many alternating layers of elastomer and hard material, and can be adhered or affixed to a thicker armor substrate. Additional protective elements such as corrugated metal-ceramic panels and armored glass cylinders can be added to improve resistance to armor piercing rounds, explosively formed penetrators, or other threats.

摘要： Carbonyl-containing polymer films, such as PET, are selectively metallizedy contacting the films with a layer or film of metal, such as aluminum, and then irradiating selected portions of the surface of the film with infrared radiation thereby heating those selected portions of the film. The metal on or opposite the irradiated portions of the surface adhere to the film. The remaining metal may be readily removed. The process provides surprisingly good spatial resolution. The present process is particularly useful in the production of microcontacts for circuit boards.

The recording medium comprises a polymer having stable amorphous and crystalline states under human operating conditions which states have different optical properties. The recording medium is optionally covered and protected by a protective layer. The substrate, recording medium and protective layer can be formed from the same or different polymers. The data is stored by exposing the recording medium to patterned infra-red radiation. The radiation can be patterned by a mask, movement of the radiation beam or by other means to imprint the data on the recording medium.

摘要： Sidewalls (12,13) for pneumatic tires (10) having a greater stiffness improve handling and performance of the tire. The sidewalls comprise a rubber, selected from the group consisting of natural rubber, synthetic rubber and blends thereof, and from about 20 to 80 parts of a rubber compatible additive, per 100 parts of rubber capable of imparting a tensile modulus of from about 30 to 200 MPa at 10 percent elongation. Pneumatic tires provided with such sidewalls are improved and exhibit higher cornering force coefficients. A method for improving the handling characteristics of pneumatic tires includes the step of applying sidewalls to the tire carcass during building, having a tensile modulus of from about 30 to 200 MPa at 10 percent elongation.

摘要： Colored tire stocks having improved abrasion resistance, color and color stability as compared to conventional colored tire stocks such as white sidewall stocks are provided. The colored tire stocks of the invention comprise crosslinked colored rubber compositions containing from 10 to 90% of ionic crosslinks and from 90 to 10% of free radical induced covalent crosslinks. These colored tire stocks may be utilized as functional tire stocks such as colored sidewall stocks (e.g. white sidewalls) or as decorative tire stocks such as raised colored letters (e.g. raised white letters) which identify the tire manufacturer.
