    • The invention comprises a scalable, configurable “propulsor” system. A propulsor system is an assembly of individual propulsors that act in concert to form a substantially continuous control surface that undulates in a working fluid. Each propulsor is driven and configured by computer-controlled actuators so that the control surface undulates in various wave forms. Optional actuators that may refine the surface shape include an “orientation” actuator that drives rotation about the propulsor's longitudinal axis, and a “geometry” actuator that controls each propulsor's geometric configuration.

    • In the method of the present invention, a customer of a service provider would be placed in hold while waiting to speak to a customer service representative. The method and system of the invention would recognize the telephone number of the caller using a “caller ID” system. If this call is the first time the caller has ever called, the caller would be presented with an audible listing of listening choices that would include but not be limited to the latest news, the weather (of the caller's location), financial headlines, or a selection of music stations (via cable radio, for example). The caller would then speak or type his/her preference into the keypad and the selection would be played. If the caller does not like the selection, the caller can then speak another selection or type the new selection as many times as the caller prefers. The caller selection is recorded in a caller preference database. Finally, when the same customer calls one or more additional times, the system would retain the caller's number and preferred listening selection, based on caller ID value. The listening selection would automatically be played on subsequent calls.

    • A motor vehicle includes an audio system and a control system configured to mute the audio system output automatically in response to input signals indicating an incoming call to any of two or more recognized cell phones or pagers. A digital input implementation employs a wire or cable from the cell phone directly to the control system. The cable carries a signal that is asserted whenever an incoming call is detected. An audio input implementation uses a set of audio detectors throughout the vehicle. The control system is “trained” to listen for a cell phone ring that matches any of a list of previously learned cell phone rings. The control system may support infrared and radio frequency implementations as well. In another embodiment, the control system detects the incoming call through the motor vehicle's external antenna in parallel with the detection of the incoming call by the cell phone.

    • The present invention provides a method and system to alert the recipient of an electronic message of some action that is required from the recipient. The invention also provides a method to alert the sender of the electronic message of the completion of the action required in the original electronic mail message. In the method of the present invention, the originator or recipient of an electronic mail message can choose to designate the message as one that requires an action by the message recipient. The recipient will notice the ‘Action Required’ icon and will be alerted to the fact that an action is required with this message. At the completion of the action, the sender of the original message will receive a notification that the requested action has been taken by the recipient.

    • An apparatus and method for facilitating communication through a messaging system by identifying times when a user of the system is most likely to be available for a messaging session. The apparatus comprises an event monitor, a database, a usage processor, and a usage indicator. The event monitor detects messaging system events and records information about these events in the database. The usage processor retrieves the recorded information from the database and uses the information to compiles statistical usage data for a given user. The usage indicator then displays the statistical usage data in a summary format to an end user. In the preferred embodiment, the event monitor, usage processor, and usage indicators are all implemented as computer instructions. These three components may be executed independently of each other, or they may be integrated into a single computer program. Similarly, each component may operate independently or be integrated into an existing messaging system.
