    • A solid state lighting system includes an electronic driver having a power input configured to receive power from a power source and the electronic driver having a power output. The electronic driver controls the power supply to the power output according to a control protocol, and the electronic driver has at least one expansion port having a separable interface. The system also includes a light emitting diode (LED) subassembly having an LED board having at least one LED that receives power from the power output of the electronic driver to power the LED. The system further includes a first expansion module configured to be coupled to the at least one expansion port of the electronic driver having a first functionality affecting the control protocol, and a second expansion module configured to be coupled to the at least one expansion port of the electronic driver having a second functionality affecting the control protocol. The first and second expansion modules are selectively coupled to the at least one expansion port to change the control protocol.

    • A socket assembly includes sockets ganged together to form a pod with each of the sockets comprising a socket housing having a first end and a second end. The socket housing has a receptacle and a power track routed along the socket housing between the first and second ends. The power track has a positive rail and a negative rail. The sockets also comprises an anode on the socket housing at the receptacle being electrically connected to the positive rail and a cathode on the socket housing at the receptacle being electrically connected to the negative rail. The power tracks of adjacent sockets within the pod are electrically connected together to form a power circuit. Light emitting diode (LED) packages are received in corresponding receptacles of the sockets, and each LED package has a first contact and a second contact configured to be coupled to the anode and cathode, respectively, when the LED package is received in the corresponding receptacle. Each LED package has a base and an LED mounted to the base and being electrically connected to the first and second contacts. Optionally, the anode may be electrically connected to the positive rail via at least one of the other sockets. The cathode may be electrically connected to the negative rail via at least one of the other sockets.

    • A light engine assembly that includes a LED having a standard preselected output. The light engine assembly accepts a light guide into the assembly. The assembly includes a two-sided PCB, one side of which is a heat sink to reduce heat build-up on the board and the other side of which is a circuit that provides power to a LED positioned on the board. The circuit includes a connector for connection to a power supply and circuitry that regulates the current supplied to the LED, which is housed on the PCB. The assembly further includes a housing for the PCB that carries the PCB while protecting it from damage. The housing permits ventilation for cooling the board. The housing also includes a light guide holder barrel, which has a substantially square cross-section and is open at one end. The light guide holder barrel accepts a light guide having a substantially circular cross-section, the light guide contacting the light guide holder barrel in four positions, the light guide transmitting light from the LED when the LED is energized. The light guide can be rotated in any position and inserted into the light guide holder barrel to allow light to be transmitted in any preselected direction by the user.
