The coil spring can have a longitudinal component positioned within the plurality of interconnected coils that runs along the spring coil axis in order to increase rigidity of the coil spring. The longitudinal component applies a load against the coil spring and/or provides restriction against the coil spring taking a shape or size different than that of the coil spring retaining groove.

In one of the two connector elements that may be of a male or a female orientation has two canted coil spring contacts where at least one of a first spring contact can be retained within at least one first spring groove within a second inner conductor and at least one of a second spring contact is retained within at least one second spring groove within a second outer conductor. The at least one second spring contact can be used as a simultaneous EMI shielding contact and latching, locking, or both latching and locking device.

The electrical contacts can each include a contact band and a tab extending from the contact band. An electrical contact can be established with a spring contact and the contact band can at least partially surrounds the insulator around the lengthwise axis of the pin. Two electrical contacts can be positioned in an axial or longitudinal offset configuration.

The locking ring can be manufactured by metal injection molding (MIM) for reduced elastic modulus, as a result of increased grain size in the microstructure, and reduced locking ring installation force. Optionally, the locking can include a through cut to decrease the overall hoop stress of the locking ring, which can be made from a MIM-produced bulk stock or from a metal stock.

Using stamped housing sections can reduce manufacturing costs and simplifies assembly, among other things. The canted coil springs can have complex shapes, with optional dimples.
