    • Double-drum winch has a power source, a transmission comprised of planetary gear systems alternately actuated by hydraulically actuated clutches for changing the direction of rotation of the output shaft thereof and speed changing reduction gear sets selectively actuated by dog clutches for changing the speed of the output shaft, a drum shaft driven by the transmission, and a hook drum and a boom drum independently rotatable on the drum shaft relative to the drum shaft. The hook drum is provided with hydraulically actuated hook clutch for rotation of the hook drum together with the drum shaft and hydraulically actuated hook brake for arresting the rotation of the hook drum, while the boom drum is provided with hydraulically actuated boom clutch and boom brake of the similar performance. A first hydraulic control system actuated by a first manually operable means controls the clutches of the planetary gear systems and the hook clutch and the hook brake, while a second hydraulic control system actuated by a second manually operable means controls the clutches of the planetary gear systems and the boom clutch and the boom brake thereby permitting the hook drum and the boom drum controlling the hook and the boom, respectively, to be independently actuated in any of the modes of operations by the selective actuation of the first and the second manually operable means, while the dog clutches for the speed changing reduction gear sets are selectively actuated by a third manually operable means, so that only three manually operable means can control the winch for any of the modes of operations at different speeds.

    • A control valve for a hydraulically actuated steering clutch and steering brake are provided. The valve comprises a valve housing having a plurality of bores therein, right and left hand operating rods and first, second and third spools slidably disposed within said respective bores. The spools are normally urged towards a neutral position where the hydraulic fluid from a hydraulic pressure supply source is discharged, through a drain circuit. The first and third spools are arranged such that when either of the right and left hand operating rods is moved on a predetermined stroke, the hydraulic fluid delivered by the supply source is supplied into either the pressure chamber of a right hand steering clutch or that of a left hand steering clutch, and when the operating rod is moved on a further predetermined stroke, the hydraulic fluid is supplied into either the pressure chamber of a right hand steering brake or that of a left hand steering brake, whereby the steering clutch and the steering brake can be controlled by a common control valve.

    • A double-drum winch having a single power transmission train for both a hook drum and a boom drum.The power transmission train comprises a high speed clutch and a low speed clutch mounted on a single first clutch shaft which is in turn mounted for rotation on a winch frame, a hook lowering clutch and a boom lowering clutch mounted on a single second clutch shaft which is in turn rotatably mounted on the frame, and a hook hoisting clutch and a boom hoisting clutch mounted on a single third clutch shaft which is in turn rotatably mounted on the frame, the second clutch shaft being located between the first and third clutch shafts and engageable with both the clutch shafts. The power transmission train is connected with the hook drum and the boom drum via a hook brake shaft and a boom brake shaft, respectively.
