    • A cover for an opening in the housing of a portable electronic device that provides a function in addition to that of protecting the opening from dirt. The cover can be coupled to the housing so that it can move between a closed position within the housing's surface recess and an open position that allows access to the opening in the housing. In the closed position, the cover becomes part of the housing and the of the device is generally unchanged. The cover can function as an antenna for wireless communication between the device and a network or access point, and it can contain circuitry for devices such as transmitter/receivers. The cover can also function as a display device, a speaker, or an alarm. Thus an existing cover that occupies space within the volume of a handheld device can be utilized for expanding the functionality of the device while generally retaining the current form factor of the device.

    • Phase noise mitigation in an analog video receiver implemented in an integrated circuit device. A phase correction value that indicates a phase offset between a synthesized sinusoid and a reference sinusoid conveyed in a horizontal retrace region of a composite video signal is periodically generated. A phase error that will accumulate during an interval between horizontal retrace regions of the composite video signal is estimated based, at least in part, on the phase correction value, and the phase of a chroma signal component of the composite video signal is adjusted based on the estimated phase error.

    • A method is provided for playing back media from a network. The method includes receiving a search criteria from a network enabled device. The method further includes accessing a database comprising a plurality of network addresses, where the database associates each address with one or more classes of information. The addresses in the database each access a media network resource. The method further includes selecting at least one address in the database using the search criteria, and signaling the selected address to the network enabled device. The method also includes controlling the network enabled device so as to automatically access and play back the media resource of the selected address.

    • Searching a database involves creating an access structure including a first tree data structure having a root node and at least one child node. Each child node is associated with match data corresponding to a data value of a field of a database record. Leaf child nodes of the first tree data structure include a link to another tree data structure in the access structure. Leaf child nodes of a further tree data structure include a link to a database record. The tree structures are traversed and scores are computed for the paths traversed that reflect the level of matching between the match pattern data of the nodes in a path and a search request to identify a database record that best matches the request.

    • A miniature keyboard wherein the keys are arranged in a way to improve data entry and decrease the chance of depressing multiple keys at a time. Accordingly, the height of the keys are patterned to decrease the chance of multiple key depressions thus increasing the accuracy of data input into the personal digital assistant. In one embodiment, the height of the keys is alternated down the individual rows of keys. In another embodiment, the height of the keys is alternated across individual columns of keys. Similarly, in another embodiment, the heights of the keys are arranged in a checkered pattern on the keyboard. In addition, another embodiment staggers the heights of the keys and incorporates embodiments mentioned above. By incorporating different key arrangements and alternating the height of the keys, key differentiation, key navigation, and data input accuracy is greatly improved due to the improved tactile feedback provided by the miniature keyboard.
