    • A multi-modal load control system includes a sensor that operates as an occupancy sensor in a first mode of operation and operates as a vacancy sensor in a second mode of operation. The load control system comprises a load control circuit adapted to be coupled in series electrical connection between an AC power source and an electrical load for controlling the amount of power delivered to the load in response to sensor, which is operable to detect occupancy or vacancy conditions in a space in which the sensor is located. In the first mode of operation, the load control circuit turns the load on when the sensor detects the occupancy condition and turns the load off when the sensor detects the vacancy condition. In the second mode of operation, the load control circuit turns the load off when the sensor detects the vacancy condition and does not turn the load on when the sensor detects the occupancy condition.

    • The invention performs long term evolution (LTE) tracking area updates (TAUs), and tracking area code (TAC) and public land mobile network identification (PLMN-ID) assisted optimized wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) cell reselection. An evolved Node-B broadcasts system information including at least one system information block (SIB) based at least in part on an enhanced universal terrestrial radio access network (E-UTRAN) parameter response message sent by an evolved packet core (EPC) network. A WTRU generates a new TAC, which represents a tracking area identification (TA-ID) of a new cell, based on the system information, and compares the new TAC to an existing TAC, which represents a TA-ID of a previous cell. The WTRU transmits to the EPC network a TAU request message including the TA-ID of the new cell. The EPC network sends either a TAU accept message or a TAU reject message to the WTRU.

    • Disclosed are systems and methods to initiate electronic payments using wireless network broadcasts. For example, a purchaser may purchase goods and/or services offered by a merchant by checking out (initiating a payment transaction for the goods and/or services) via a cash register or a point of sale terminal at the merchant. When a purchase amount or total for a particular purchase is calculated, a payment request message may be broadcasted publicly on a wireless network where the merchant and an electronic device operated by the purchaser may participate as network nodes. The electronic device may receive the broadcasted payment request message and may display an interface or visual indication that includes information associated with the payment request message such that the purchaser interact with the interface or visual indication to initiate a payment transaction to purchase the goods and/or services associated with the particular purchase.
