    • [Problem] To provide a rod fixing device capable of operating with substantially the same magnitude of force irrespective of whether the direction of movement of a rod is up or down, and a telescopic rod unit employing the same. [Solution] A locking mechanism 13 which moves integrally with a first rod 11 inside a second rod 12 comprises a stopper 15 having a contacting surface portion 15c capable of coming into contact with an inner circumferential surface 12a of the second rod 12, a holder 14 which rotatably holds the stopper 15 in such a way that the contacting surface portion 15c is capable of coming into contact with the inner circumferential surface 12a of the second rod 12, and a coil spring 16 which normally imparts to the stopper 15 an elastic force for generating a fixing frictional force between the first rod 11 and the second rod 12 by causing the contacting surface portion 15c of the stopper 15 to come into contact with the inner circumferential surface 12a of the second rod 12, wherein the configuration is such that movement of the first rod 11 toward one side causes the contacting surface portion 15c to rotate toward a side separating from the inner circumferential surface 12a of the second rod 12, and movement of the first rod 11 toward the other side is a movement against the fixing frictional force.

    • A rotary damper that does not cause a problem that a rotational resistance fluctuates during a rotation of a rotor is provided. On a bottom surface of a housing, a plurality of walls are erected concentrically centered on a bearing portion. Notches are formed in the walls at point-symmetrical peripheral positions centered on the bearing portion, and each notch is distributed and arranged at peripheral positions that evenly divide a circumference centered on the bearing portion between the adjacent walls. On a side surface of a rotor, a plurality of walls are erected concentrically centered on a center pin at a pitch deviated from a standing pitch of the walls of the housing by a half pitch. Notches are formed in the walls at point-symmetrical peripheral positions centered on the center pin, and each notch is distributed and arranged at peripheral positions that evenly divide a circumference.
