    • Apparatus for manufacturing wheel rim blanks from flat metal strip includes a plurality of work stations through which the metal strip passes to produce a cylindrical ring having a longitudinal axis and a welded joint. The work stations include a strip feed station, a cylinder forming station, a joint orientation station, a joint welding station and finishing stations. The work stations are arranged in a generally Z-shaped configuration with end legs extending in opposite directions from opposite ends of a transverse connecting leg. The strip feed station is located along one end leg, while the finishing stations are arranged along the other end leg. The ring forming, joint orientation and joint welding stations are aligned in succession along the connecting leg. The ring members are received in upwardly open U-shaped supports at the finishing stations and are moved in arcuate paths from the welding station through the finishing stations by an overhead conveyor device.

    • Apparatus for externally and internally peeling pipes includes a drill head secured to one end of an elongated drill rod and an external cutter head longitudinally-spaced from the drill head in the direction of movement of a pipe through the apparatus. A feed mechanism is positioned adjacent the drill head for feeding a pipe completely past the drill head and at least partially through the external cutter head. An extraction feed mechanism is positioned on the opposite side of the external cutter head from the drill head for pulling pipes completely past the external cutter head. The feed mechanism adjacent the drill head includes opposed pairs of rollers, one pair of which is radially aligned with the cutters on the drill head.

The centrifugal force compensation is preferably arranged in the enclosed region between the bearings (17, 18) of the spindle (6).

    • A centerless turning machine for rods. The machine includes a cutter-head mounted at the front end of a rotating hollow shaft, and further includes a plurality of advancing rollers of an infeed device operatively mounted at the inlet end of the turning machine. The turning machine further includes a front guide mechanism and a rear guide mechanism, respectively mounted on opposite sides of the cutter head, and also includes a clamping carriage which is mounted on the outlet side of the turning machine. The rear guide mechanism takes the form of a tubular support which is provided with a flange mounted in the machine housing and which extends into the rotating hollow shaft. The rear guide mechanism has, at its free end, which protrudes into the hollow shaft, three individually spring biased guide elements for the rod. The springs for each individual guide element form a first resilient abutment for each guide element. The movements of the three guide elements are synchronized by a rotatable ring. The rotational position of the ring is prestressed against the housing. Upon a closing movement of the adjustmeent ring, the individual springs are compressed and finally each guide element abuts against a second rigid abutment.

    • A machine for straightening elongated workpieces comprises a plurality of straightening rolls mounted one after the other to opposite sides of a workpiece to be straightened, substantially in a plane and turnable about axes normal to the direction of movement to the workpiece through the machine. At least the first three straightening rolls are mounted for rotation about their axes on a C-shaped support frame so that the workpiece may be introduced between the same from the open side of the C-shaped support frame. Lateral elements for centralizing the workpiece are coordinated with the first three straightening rolls. The second straightening roll and the centralizing elements coordinated therewith are movable in the aforementioned plane in a direction away from the first and the third roll through a large stroke accomplished by a quick adjusting mechanism, and to further facilitate lateral introduction of a workpiece from the open side of a C-shaped machine frame between the first three rolls, the centralizing element at this one side of the second roll can be tilted preferably about an axis parallel to that of the second roll in upward direction. The first three rolls and the elements cooperating therewith are preferably constructed as an independent machine unit.
