    • A device comprising a mask plate having formed therein at least one symbol indication window comprising at least one relatively narrow and elongated quadrilateral slot or slit and having an inclined base line, a symbol indicator having at least one series of symbol patterns printed or otherwise superposed thereon, and symbol indicator drive means. The symbol indicator drive means intermittently drives and moves the symbol indicator in such manner that the latter is moved a distance corresponding to one half the length of each symbol pattern each time it is driven, whereby one symbol after another can be indicated through the symbol indication window.

    • The device comprises a capstan and a pinch roller co-operating with each other in pressing a record card, placed on a card passageway, against a card guide wall provided on one side of the card passageway while moving the card ahead along the card passageway so that the information recorded on the card magnetically, for example, can be read out by readout means, for example, a magnetic head, disposed in a predetermined position. The capstan has a frustro-conical peripheral surface which is inclined with respect to the axis of the capstan such that its maximum diameter peripheral surface portion is disposed near to the guide wall and, when the maximum diameter peripheral surface portion is brought into pressing engagement with a card held between the capstan and pinch roller, the capstan exerts on the card not only tangentially directed force effective to move the card lengthwise of the card passageway but also an axially directed repulsive force which urges the card to move axially of the capstan into pressing engagement with the card guide wall, whereby the card can move straight ahead without deviating from its predetermined course as in a zigzag movement, which the information on the card is read out by the readout means.

    • In the directly readable digital clock disclosed a sector-shaped cam is keyed to an operating shaft. The operating shaft can be turned to one of four discreet positions. In each of the positions, a lever arm rests on the peripheral surface of the cam. At the end of a time period set into the clock, a timer knocks the lever off the cam periphery and onto a pin extending eccentrically from the cam. In the first cam position, the cam surface initially pushes the lever on to a position that closes a radio switch and opens an alarm switch. In the other three shaft positions the cam causes the lever arm initially to open both the radio switch and the alarm switch. In the first position, at the end of the timing cycle, the pin catches the lever arm in virtually its original position so that the radio switch remains on and the alarm switch off. In the second position, the pin also catches the lever in the original position so that both switches remain off. In the third position, the pin catches the lever so as to allow closing of the radio switch only. In the fourth position, the pin catches the lever so as to allow closing of both positions. A settable crown gear is engageable with a shaftdriven spur gear so that the crown gear can be turned from its set position to a final position by the clock. In its set position, a control cam, keyed to the crown gear causes a lever member to prevent movement of the lever arm in a direction in which it would open the radio switch or close the alarm switch. A notch in the control cam withdraws the lever member and renders it ineffective when the control cam reaches its final position. The radio switch may also be used to turn on other electrical appliances.

    • An indicia display unit comprises an inner wheel bearing a number of indicia, the number being represented by an integer X, and an outer wheel bearing a number of indicia equal to nX where n is an integer. The outer wheel is also formed with a display window. The inner wheel is nestingly fitted within the outer wheel, and its indicia position is aligned with an indicia position on the outer wheel. The inner wheel is adapted to be driven for one cycle which includes (n + 1) revolutions. During the initial n revolutions of the inner wheel, the outer wheel is concurrently driven for rotation therewith to present successive indicias thereon for display. On the (n + 1)-th revolution of the inner wheel, the window in the outer wheel is interrupted to permit the display of successive indicia on the inner wheel by allowing the rotation of the latter alone.

    • The device firmly secures a spring winder means to a spring winding stem by means of a coil spring intimately fitted over the spring winder means and the spring winding stem threadably connected together. The convolutions of the coil spring are directed in the same direction as the threads formed in the spring winder means and spring winding stem for threadable connection, so that the coil spring is tightened if the spring winder means is turned in a direction in which it is threadably disconnected from the spring winding stem.
