    • A girt bar latching system for operating the deployment of an evauation slide or combination slideraft in event of an emergency, and in normal mode of operation to latch and release its girt bar from floor fittings when the exit door is closed and opened, respectively. An inflatable but collapsed and packed slide is stored in a container mounted upon the interior side of the exit door, and is utilized in emergency situations only. In normal operation, as the door closes, the end portions of a girt bar connected to the slide engage the floor fittings. Upon opening the door, latches included in the floor fittings are depressed thereby providing for release of the girt bar so that it travels with the slide, container, and door. In an emergency mode of operation, as the door is opened, the latches remain raised to prevent the girt bar from releasing from the floor fittings. The girt bar is retained in the floor fittings as the escape slide or raft deploys. An arming mechanism is employed for selection of normal and emergency operational modes.

    • This invention discloses the combination of (1) a liquid temperature conditioning apparatus located exteriorly of a potential explosion sustaining zone, (2) an explosion proof airliquid heat exchange device located within a potential explosion sustaining zone, and (3) air ducts interconnecting the air-liquid heat exchange device with the interior of a compartment open to the ambient and containing explosion sustaining vapors, such as the interior of an integral fuel tank compartment in an aircraft containing vapors arising from highly volatile hydrocarbon fuels normally carried therein. This combination further includes a closed-loop liquid circuit interconnecting the liquid temperature conditioning apparatus exterior of the explosion sustaining zone and the air-liquid heat exchange device located within the explosion sustaining zone, along with a blower means associated with the air-liquid heat exchange device whereby air ambient to the air-liquid heat exchange device within the explosion sustaining zone is temperature conditioned by being blown through an air-liquid heat exchange coil and supplied to the compartment interior. By appropriate control of the liquid temperature conditioning apparatus, the compartment interior can be continuously supplied by temperature conditioned air that is either cooled or heated.

    • A joggling tool explosively actuated to release energy at a high rate to a punch member which physically imparts a force to a workpiece held in a forming die member to accomplish a joggle or indentation therein. A cartridge mounted upon an inner barrel member is fired to develop explosive gas in its bore chamber to drive the punch member. An outer barrel member is mounted about the inner barrel member to guide the movement of the punch member. A breech housing circumscribes both barrel members and has mounted thereon a firing device for the cartridge. The outer barrel member is supported by a frame member or yoke which is securely mounted, such as by locating pins, to the forming die member.

    • Apparatus and method for measuring the acoustical impedance and/or the absorption coefficient of materials of the class which exhibit nonlinear behavior at high sound intensities. A highintensity biasing noise having a broadband spectrum and a low intensity pure sinusoidal tracer tone are introduced in combination into a standard impedance tube or standing-wave apparatus. The standing-wave pattern in the tube is measured by a pressure microphone probe movable along the axis of the tube. The tracer tone is retrieved by highly selective filtering and used to provide a measurement signal which corresponds to the response of the material. By sampling the standing wave pattern in the tube, the entire spectrum of the broadband noise response may be obtained.
