摘要： A briquetting and compacting construction wherein material is fed between opposed forming means such as briquetting rolls and is thereby formed into continuous lengths. Engaging surfaces, preferably attached to vibrating means, are interposed in the path of movement of the continuous lengths of material whereby the lengths are divided into separate pieces. The vibrating means may be connected to a deflecting shoe which engages the formed lengths or to a plate to which the lengths are directed to achieve the dividing action. A vibrating conveyor may be employed for conveying the separate lengths away from the forming area of the construction, and the shoe or plate structures which provide the engaging surfaces for the compacted lengths may be supported by the conveyor whereby vibrations will be imparted by the conveyor to the engaging surfaces.

Control means are provided for varying the operation of the feeding means in accordance with the load applied to the drive for the compacting means. When the meter records a limiting position, indicating that the load has increased or decreased to a limiting value, an electrical circuit associated with the meter is operated. This circuit in turn operates adjusting means for the drive of the feeding means whereby the rate of material fed to the compacting means is adjusted. This adjustment is calculated to maintain the energy level and product quality at desired values.

The roll tire is preferably heated to a temperature in excess of the shaft temperature whereby the tire can be more readily located in position relative to the shaft section. A key structure is employed for securing the tire against movement relative to the shaft section. The key structure comprises a base which is attached to the shaft section and an extension adapted to be received within a recess defined in a side edge of the roll tire. A retaining plate serves to adjustably hold wedges which are adapted to be inserted between the sidewall of a key extension and an inner wall of a recess. A plurality of key structures are preferably employed and the retaining plate serves to secure the assembly of keys and wedges after the wedges are tightly fit relative to the key extension.

The feed screw is hydraulically or electrically driven and signals are applied to the drive means for varying the feed screw pressure. Variations in the driving force of the feed screw are designed to offset the forces tending to vary the spacing between the rolls whereby a constant roll spacing, and therefore a product of constant thickness can be achieved.

Means are provided for breaking the length of material into separate pieces comprising a shoe having a surface portion located in the path of movement of the length of material. The material is driven into engagement with a separate surface, preferably the moving surface of one of the briquetting rolls, to achieve fracture.
