    • For grinding use on the base underside of continuous in-track welded rail type track defining a railroad right of way, for removing rail excess weld metal from the underside of the rail base, at the weld joint thereof, after ballast has been sufficiently removed from between the ties at the joint involved, in which the apparatus comprises a cart that is wheeled to ride on and extend crosswise of the track, and defines at one end a carriage way that extends to one side of the right of way, with the carriage way being equipped with a carriage which carries a post structure that is adjustable lengthwise of same, and that carries an adjustably mounted grinding head that rotatably mounts on the upper side of same a grinding wheel that is applied, when in its operative relation, to the underside of the rail base, from outside the right of way and under the rail involved, in which the grinder head may be raised by adjusting the post structure lengthwise thereof to bring the uppermost portion of the rim of the grinding wheel against the underside of the rail base joint at the gauge side edge of the rail, with the carriage being movable crosswise of the track to shift the grinder wheel across the rail base underside for grinding purposes, both being repeated as needed to grind off from the rail base underside the excess weld metal.

    • A rigidifying arrangement for self lubricating wear plate assemblies employed for supporting the inner end of the vertical yoke used in railroad car coupler draft gear rigging, in which the wear plate is in the form of a planar support plate equipped with the special liner of Chierici and Murphy U.S. Pat. No. 4,055,254 for supporting the yoke inner end at its operative level within the car center sill. The support plate is rigidified to maintain its planar configuration under the weight of the draft gear and yoke acting on it, by affixing to same along its longitudinal center line a depending flange structure defining a vertical flange of rectilinear configuration and a horizontal flange integral with the vertical flange along the lower edge of the latter and spaced from the support plate. The rigidifying flange structure not only maintains the support plate, and thus the liner surfacing on which the yoke rides in planar relation for achieving maximum benefits of the invention of said patent, but also the support plate itself may be of much thinner gauge than conventionally employed for yoke wear plates.

    • An outlet assembly for application to hoppers of railroad hopper cars and the like in the form of a frame made up of spaced pairs of longitudinal and transverse frame members joined together and shaped to define a continuation of the hopper car sheets, and slidably mounting a door plate or gate for movement between open and closed positions, in which the gate is a planar member of one piece molded construction formed from an ultra high molecular weight polymer and includes integral racks on either side of same that mesh with pinions journaled in the frame and reversably drivable, using conventional power equipment or the like, to move the gate between closed and opened positions. The gate assembly is equipped with a sanitary top seal that is in wiping engagement with the gate and is arranged to permit the lading when present to help provide the sealing action at the gate. The assembly also includes a positive gate stop to prevent accidental discharge of the gate from its trackway on being opened, and an automatic gate lock which operates to lock the gate in closed position when the gate is returned to closed position after having been opened.

    • A tie plate for mounting railroad track rails on track ties in which the tie plate is formed from a corrosion resistant resilient polymer of dry self-lubricating characteristics, in which the tie plate has its upper side shaped to define along either side of the plate bearing surface to be engaged by the rail base a pair of flexible ridges each defining a flexible lip, with such lips opposing each other and terminating in a marginal edge projecting over the tie plate bearing surface. The tie plate ridges each define under their respective lips an upstanding side wall, which side walls oppose each other and are spaced apart and of a height to closely receive the rail base side edges therebetween when the rail is applied to the tie plate. The tie plate ridge lips each define on their upwardly facing sides a cam surface arcing downwardly from the crest of same to the respective lip marginal edges, with the respective lip marginal edges being spaced apart for snap fitting of the rail base between same for effecting seating of the rail base against the tie plate bearing surface. The underside of the tie plate is serrated for biting engagement with the tie as well as providing for aereation of same under the plate. In alternate forms, a separate brace plate extends across the tie plate for engagement with the sides of the tie to eliminate the need for rail anchors.
