    • An improved structure of an impact screwdriver is provided which achieves a low-noise screw-driving operation. The impact screwdriver includes a clutch assembly for transmitting torque provided by a motor to a tool bit. The clutch assembly includes a toque-transmitting member, a torque-outputting member, and a clutch coil spring. The clutch coil spring is selectively wound around the torque-transmitting member and the torque-outputting member according to a rotational difference therebetween to establish torque transmission for providing the torque to the tool bit intermittently.

    • A high-frequency motor comprises a squirrel-cage rotor. The rotor comprises an iron core having a plurality of circular slots, a plurality of conductive rods inserted into the slots, and short-circuit rings disposed at both ends of the conductive rods. The conductive rods are made of copper. A ratio of a product of the number N2 of the conductive rods and a diameter d2 of each conductive rod to an outer diameter D of the rotor is in an optimized range of 1.1 to 1.5, namely, 1.1.ltoreq.N2.multidot.d2/D.ltoreq.1.5. With this optimization, it becomes possible to achieve a maximum rotational speed of more than 120,000 min.sup.-1 and obtain an excellent motor efficiency.

    • A portable electric tool including an electric motor for driving a cutter to cut an object to be machined. The electric tool comprises a bracket for supporting the electric motor and handles attached to handle-mounting sections of the bracket for keeping the electric tool in cutting operation. Also included in the electric tool is a coupling mechanism for mechanically coupling each of the handles to each of the handle-mounting sections of the bracket. The coupling mechanism includes first and second annular members which are respectively attached to the handle-mounting section thereof and the handle so as to be coaxially arranged in confronting relationship to each other. Each of the first and second annular members has elongated recess portions and elongated projection portions which are alternately and successively arranged at a predetermined angular interval with respect to its own center. The elongated recess portions and projection portions of the first annular member are arranged to be engaged with the elongated projection portions and recess portions of the second annular member so as to provided a desirable mounting angle of the handle with respect to the bracket.

    • A circuit arrangement including a computer is built in an electrical jig saw where various data or information, such as the sort of the material of the workpiece, the thickness of the workpiece, desired degree of finish and way of cutting, are manually inputted via a keyboard so that the computer selects and determines optimum working condition, such as the sort of blade to be used, the locus of the blade, blade strokes per minute which is in proportion to the motor speed, and the necessity of application of coolant oil. The circuit arrangement also comprises circuitry for automatically controlling the rotational speed of the motor of the jig saw so that an actual speed of the blade equals a desired speed represented by strokes per minute. A display unit is coupled with the computer for indicating input and output data of the computer for supplying visual information to the user of the jig saw.

    • An apparatus for detecting a feeding of paper has a reflector which is mounted on a bottom of a switch lever. The switch lever, in turn, is slidably mounted on black paper retainer plate which has poor reflecting properties, and a light emitting element emits light which is reflected by the paper towards a light receiving element. When paper which has good reflecting properties is being fed, the reflector is slid so that it is no longer located opposite the light emitting element, and any light passing through holes in the paper is thus poorly reflected by the black paper retainer plate, thereby enabling the light receiving element to readily detect the presence or absence of a hole in the paper. However, when the paper being fed has poor reflecting properties, the reflector is slid so that it is located opposite the light emitting element, and any light passing through one of the holes in the paper is strongly reflected by the reflector. Therefore, again, the light receiving element can readily detect the presence or absence of the holes.
