摘要： Improved coupling apparatus (10) for coupling an ultrasound probe (24) to an object (26) is described. The apparatus (10) is particularly suitable for use within medical devices. The coupling apparatus (10) comprising first (14) and second (18) deformable coupler located on separate sides of an intermediate layer (16). Employing the first coupler (14) allows the apparatus (10) to be coupled to the probe (24) while the second coupler (18) provides a means for coupling the apparatus (10) to the object (26). The intermediate layer (16) acoustically connects the first (14) and second couplers (18) while providing structural strength for the apparatus (10). Optionally a sheath or cover (157) may be incorporated within the coupling apparatus (141) so as to improve the hygiene and sterile nature of the device.

Light sources provide optical stimuli to the retina in accordance with predetermined stimulation sequences, and images of the retina are obtained and correlated with the predetermined stimulation sequences so as to determine responses of the retina to the optical stimuli. In one particular embodiment, optical stimuli are provided according to m-sequences and correlated with corresponding optical coherence tomography images to determine a functional response of the retina.

摘要： An ultrasonic scanning device having an ultrasonic transmission/reception probe arranged for rapid scanning in a plane while a housing of the device is being held stationary so that real time ultrasonic "pictures" of moving organs such as the heart, can be obtained. The probe is arranged to scan through a window of the housing and mounting means for the probe ensure that ultrasonic signals from the probe have a constant reference point of departure which is at a well-defined small distance from the window. Ultrasonic coupling means are provided between the probe and window, and the window, coupling means and probe may form a sub-assembly removable from the housing.
