    • A detector for determining the location of a pulsed laser spot reflected from a scene, which comprises a CCD sensor for imaging the scene comprising an array of pixels arranged in rows (R1, R2, R3) and columns (C1, C2, C3), a serial read-out register arrangement (not shown), and charge transfer electrodes (Ø1H, Ø1V, Ø2) capable of transferring signal charge in at least two adjacent pixels to read-out register arrangement locations representative of the row location of at least one of the adjacent pixels and the column location of at least one other of the adjacent pixels. The charge transfer electrodes are two phase, but three or more phase arrangements are also possible.

    • A sensor device of the type for sensing incident radiation by charge generation, has a substrate within which charge may be generated by incident radiation. A plurality of electrodes are arranged to cover an image area of the substrate and are selectively connectable to supplied DC voltages such that an electric field is created across the image area to sweep charge across multiple electrodes from the image area to an output. The voltage applied to one of the electrodes may be a voltage of a level so as to present a barrier to charge within the image area. The sensor thus has a variable sample area defined by the barrier voltage level.

    • An electrical apparatus having a cooling system includes a first cover to cover a first part of the electrical apparatus to be cooled and a second cover substantially enclosing the first cover to define a surrounding space. A base plate on which the first cover is mounted defines an environmentally-sealed enclosure that houses the first part of electrical apparatus. A first circulation device causes air to circulate in the environmentally-sealed enclosure and a second circulation device causes a cooling fluid to circulate around the surrounding space. A heat transfer structure is positioned on each side of the first cover. A third cover is mounted to an opposite side of the base plate from the first cover to define a second enclosure that houses a second part of the electrical apparatus to be cooled. A heat exchange structure is positioned within the second enclosure. The second circulation device is arranged to drive cooling fluid both through the heat exchange structure and through the surrounding space.

    • A magnetron has an anode 3 surrounding a tubular hollow cathode 4 which contains a heater 9. The cathode is supported by radial arms at each end. At one end of the cathode, the heater is supplied with one terminal of its D.C. supply by means of a radial arm 5, which also serves to support that end of the cathode. The arm has a portion 5a offset towards the cathode, and a cover of conducting material is interposed between the heater connection and the adjacent end wall 1 of the vacuum envelope. The cover may have a folded portion so that it can be carried by the arm.

    • An electron beam tube device such as an inductive output tube of the integral cavity type has a RF window which re-enters the interaction space within the cavity thereby defining a space that is within the interaction cavity but is outside the vacuum. An output coupler in the form of an output coupling loop protrudes into this space and thus couples with the electromagnetic field within the interaction space, whilst remaining outside the vacuum envelope. This allows the coupling loop to be adjusted without any additional seal arrangement between the coupling loop and walls of the output cavity.
