    • A fiber reinforced resin leaf spring including a curved central section and a pair of generally circular end sections connected to the respective ends of the central section. Each end section defines an opening to receive a connecting member. The spring is wound from an endless strand of substantially continuous fibers impregnated with a cured thermosetting resin. A plurality of longitudinally extending ribs are formed in the neck region of the spring, which joins the curved central section to the respective end sections. The ribs, which extend alternately upwardly and downwardly from a plane extending through the neutral axis of the spring, increase the stiffness of the spring in the neck region and prevent delamination of the fibrous windings during service.

    • A multiple arc welding generator supplies a presettable direct current constant potential output to a plurality of welding arcs which are individually initiated and terminated. A controlled rectifier bridge includes individual gated rectifiers connected to a pulse source and selectively supplies unidirectional current to the field of the generator from an alternating current supply of the usual 60 cycle supply system. A resistive sensing circuit is parallel connected to the plurality of paralleled arcs and is connnected through a resistive element to supply a linear proportional generator output voltage signal to a signal summing point. A direct current reference source is connected to supply a presettable constant potential reference signal of opposite polarity to the same signal summing point to combine with the proportional generator voltage signal and supply a control signal to the pulse source which maintains the output voltage constant within each electrical cycle of the alternating current input.

    • A petroleum product bulk plant line includes a flowmeter recorder which is temperature compensated by electrical control signals derived from a bridge circuit including a thermistor inserted within the flow line and a feedback potentiometer coupled to the compensated output. A differential amplifier and a reversible motor switching circuit is connected to the bridge circuit to selectively energize a motor and control an adjustable ratio drive assembly to provide a compensated output to the recorder. An electro-mechanical signal converter is coupled to the flowmeter and generates an electrical signal which is transmitted to a remotely located monitor having a drive assembly and a remotely located recorder. The thermistor within the flow line therefore provides a temperature responsive signal to the remotely located monitor to temperature compensate the drive assembly. The adjustable ratio drive assembly may include a nonlinear cam to compensate for changes in the liquid coefficient of expansion.

    • An impact absorbing system includes a bumper having a resilient coating, and shear mounts between the bumper and the vehicle frame side bars. The ends of the side bars are strengthened and are offset outwardly from the wheel wells to near the ends of the bumpers where the shear mounts connect the bumper to the frame. Each shear mount includes an upper and lower bracket fixed to the bumper and bonded to resilient blocks supported on an inner bracket which is bolted to the frame side bar. A rim on the inner bracket and corresponding flanges on the upper and lower brackets abut to hold the resilient blocks in a normally stressed condition.

GLASS SLIP, WHICH IS A WATER SUSPENSION OF GLASS FRIT PARTICLES, CLAYS AND MILL ADDITIONS, IS USED TO FILL THE DEPOSITION CHAMBER AND IS ADDED CONTINUOUSLY TO REPLACE THOSE SOLIDS REMOVED DURING THE COATING OPERATION. A VOLTAGE IS APPLIED ACROSS THE CIRCUIT AND THE GLASS PARTICLES AND CLAYS ARE DEPOSITED ON THE METAL WORKPIECE.

      IN ADDITION, A PROVISION IS MADE TO CONTINUOUSLY DEIONIZE THE LIQUID OR WATER PHASE OF THE GLASS SLIP. THE GLASS FRIT PARTICLES SETTLE OUT THE SETTLING CHAMBER ON A SERIES OF SPACED, GENERALLY PARALLEL PLATES WHICH ARE LOCATED AT AN ANGLE OF 50* TO 90* WITH RESPECT TO THE HORIZONTAL. RELATIVELY GLASS-FREE LIQUID IS WITHDRAWN FROM THE UPPER END OF THE SETTLING CHAMBER, PASSED THROUGH A SERIES OF ION EXCHANGE COLUMNS AND THE DEIONIZED LIQUID IS RETURNED TO THE DEPOSTION CHAMBER, WHILE THE GLASS FRIT PARTICLES, WHICH HAVE SETTLED OUT, FLOW DOWNWARDLY FROM THE SETTLING CHAMBER AND ARE ALSO RETURNED TO THE DEPOSITION CHAMBER.
