摘要： Certain ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable monomers having a reactive carboxy group are useful for preparing homo- and copolymers for a variety of uses, including diagnostic assays. The polymers can be supplied as latex particles in aqueous compositions. The monomers are represented by the structure: ##STR1## wherein: R is hydrogen, halo or alkyl or 1 to 3 carbon atoms,M is hydrogen, an alkali metal ion or an ammonium ion, andL is a linking group having from 8 to 50 atoms in its linking chain, and comprises two or more divalent hydrocarbon groups connected or terminated with one or more nitrogen, oxygen or sulfur atoms, or with one or more groups containing such atoms in the linking chain, provided L has at least one arylene which is not directly connected to the terminal ##STR2## and further provided that none of the hydrocarbon groups has non-aromatic unsaturation.

摘要： An associative thickening copolymer, water-soluble in a neutral or alkaline medium, for charged and/or pigmented, white or colored aqueous compositions is disclosed. The copolymer is composed of (a) at least one monomer with ethylenic unsaturation having at least one carboxylic function, (b) at least one other monomer with ethylenic unsaturation without a carboxylic function, (c) at least one surfactant monomer having at least one urethane function resulting from the reaction of an isocyanate with ethylenic unsaturation with a surfactant compound having a hydroxyl function which is reactive with regard to the --NCO group, wherein said copolymer belongs to the group composed of those which, by definition, placed in aqueous solution with 2% by weight of dry material, brought to a pH of 9 by the addition of ammonia and at a temperature of 20.degree. C., have a Brookfield viscosity at 100 revolutions per minute of at most equal to 220 centipoises.The copolymer may be is used in charged and/or pigmented aqueous compositions such as coating compositions and, more particularly, coating colors, printing pastes, leather finishing products, cosmetic and detergent compositions and drilling fluids.

摘要： Oxidatively cross-linkable, water dilutable binders suitable for lacquers, coating compositions and sealing compounds are modified co-polymers of olefinically unsaturated compounds, having a molecular weight of 6000 to 160,000 and having for each 100 grams of solids content, a total of from60 to 250 milliequivalents of chemically incorporated carboxyl groups, of which from 10 to 100% are neutralized thereby rendering the product dilutable in water andfrom 15 to 50% by weight of chemically incorporated moieties corresponding to the formula--O--RwhereinR represents an olefinically monounsaturated or polyunsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon having a molecular weight above 166 and containing from 12 to 22 carbon atoms, are prepared by:(a) preparing a co-polymer having a molecular weight from 5000 to 80,000, determined by gel permeation chromatography, and having intramolecular carboxylic acid anhydride units corresponding to the formula ##STR1## and an anhydride equivalent weight of from 240 to 1960 by a radically initiated co-polymerization of olefinically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid anhydrides with other olefinically unsaturated monomers,(b) reacting at least 50% of the acid anhydride units present in the co-polymer from (a) with an unsaturated monohydric alcohol corresponding to the formulaR--OH with anhydride ring opening ester formation, and(c) converting the free carboxyl groups in the reaction product of (b) to an extent of 10 to 100% into carboxylate groups by neutralization of the carboxys with a base.

摘要： Finely divided, gel-like crosslinked polymers are prepared by a continuous method in which a monomer mixture which contains, per 100 parts by weight of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid, from 50 to 100 mol % of which in each case are neutralized, acrylamide, methacrylamide or N-vinylpyrrolidone, from 0 to 30 parts by weight of other water-soluble monoethylenically unsaturated monomers and from 0 to 20 parts by weight of water-insoluble monoethylenically unsaturated monomers is copolymerized with from 0.01 to 5 parts by weight of a crosslinking agent, in 20-65% strength by weight aqueous solution in the presence of an initiator at from 45.degree. to 95.degree. C. in a single-screw cylindrical mixer whose stirrer shaft possesses disk segments which have, at the outer end, mixing bars which are arranged in a manner such that the substances fed in at the entrance of the mixer are conveyed in the axial direction to the exit of the mixer, the aqueous monomer solution in the mixer is polymerized under from 100 to 800 mbar, and some of the water is removed during the polymerization, so that a crumb-like gel having a solids content of from 30 to 70% by weight is discharged.
