    • A one-time use, disposable, plastic-molded locking clip is provided for retaining the depressible plunger of a dispensing pump in a fully extended position during shipment or otherwise. The clip may be snapped onto the plunger after the latter has been fully assembled, yet once installed, the snapped together portions of the clip are not readily detectable nor accessible so that the clip may not be removed without destroying the same by tearing a twist tab therefrom. The generally C-shaped jaws of the clip embrace the plunger immediately below the head thereof in order to block depression, and such jaws forceably interlock with each other into a complete loop so that the clip may be installed upon pumps devoid of structure which would assist in locking the clip in place. Mating hooks of the interlocking components on the jaws are so oriented that the resistive force from the plunger tending to spread apart the embracing jaws of the clip simply tends to tighten the interengagement of the hooks as the jaws pull against each other at their outer ends.

    • When the plunger is fully depressed, radially projecting lugs carried by the plunger adjacent its normally upper end may be received within corresponding notches in a collar through which the plunger reciprocates, whereupon rotation of the plunger in a clockwise direction moves the lugs under overhanging shoulders of the collar so as to prevent extension of the plunger until it is intentionally unlocked from the collar. A total of three lugs are utilized so as to provide three-point, stabilized retention of the plunger in its locked-down condition, and one of the lugs and its corresponding notch is smaller than the other two so that the plunger can be locked only when it is in a certain, predetermined rotative position relative to the collar aligning the down-sized lug and notch. Each of the shoulders is provided with a lower, lug-engaging, inclined surface which bears against its corresponding lug with progressively increasing force for fluid-tight sealing purposes as the plunger is rotated into a fully locked condition, there being abutments associated with the shoulders blocking movement of the lugs beyond positions corresponding to the fully locked and rotated position of the plunger.

    • A device for loading an ink fountain of a printing press directly from sealed cans of ink. The device includes a base plate having a pair of vertical threaded pillars laterally spaced to define a working area adequate to accommodate cans of ink in all normally available sizes. A pressure plate flatly superimposed above the working area has captive bushings which threadedly engage the pillars, the bushings being rotated in unison for lowering the pressure plate to the base plate. An aperture is generally centered in the base plate. Thus when the base plate is seated above the fountain and a can of ink having a puncture alined with the aperture is engaged between the pressure plate and the base plate, ink is squeezed through the aperture directly into the fountain accompanied by accordion type collapse of the can into empty flattened condition.

    • A vented pump and pre-loaded spring for dispensing liquid at a controlled rate from a container upon depression of a plunger or stem. A pump body extends within the container and houses the stem and piston. The lower end of the stem functions as an inlet valve. The piston is slidable on the stem between upper and lower stop limits and seals the outlet passage in the stem when the plunger is in a raised position. An initial downward movement of the plunger closes the inlet valve and then, after a slight build up of pressure within the pump chamber, moves the outlet passage downwardly of the piston into communication with the pump chamber below the piston. Continued downward motion of the stem moves the piston downwardly and expels the liquid through the outlet passage while maintaining a constant seal at the inlet valve. A sealing disc cooperates with the plunger or stem to prevent air from entering the container when the stem is in the raised position and to allow air to enter the container through a fluid vent passage formed between cooperating surfaces of the container, stem, disc and pump body when the stem is moved toward the down position. A variety of types of fluid vent passages are provided, such as, a plurality of rounded knurls on the outside surface of the pump body to assure an open fluid vent passage after the pump body is crimped to the container and provision is also made for use of a flange adaptor, with or without knurls, for non-crimping modes of constructing the pump assembly.
