    • In a mobile communications system, a batch of sequence numbers is generated via an algorithm wherein each sequence number comprises a suffix and a prefix. The method comprises; calculating a new sequence number suffix from an existing sequence number suffix, calculating a prefix of a first new sequence number of the batch by addition to the prefix of the existing sequence number if the new suffix is not equal to a predetermined value or by a randomising process if the new suffix is equal to said predetermined value, and calculating prefixes for the other sequence numbers of the batch by modular addition of integers to the prefix of said first new sequence number. The sequence numbers are used in the authentication procedure.

    • The present invention relates to a method for utilizing a mobile station for the transmission of authorization information requiring verification in a telecommunication network comprising the mobile station. In the method, the information to be verified is transmitted to the mobile station, the authorization information transmitted is presented on the display of the mobile station, the authorization information presented is read from the display of the mobile station, and the authenticity of the authorization information thus read is verified.     • A wireless data network process and system are provided based on a network with prior network-based authentication of a connected mobile node (MN) and with a network connection to a packet gateway node (PGN). The method and system establish and use an authentication mechanism between the MN and the PGN using the network connection. An encrypted channel is then set up between the MN and the PGN based on authentication established with the authentication mechanism. Configuration data is sent from the PGN to the MN using the encrypted channel. The configuration data may then be used by the MN for communication to and from the MN via the PGN. Any network connected to the PGN may then be used. The authentication mechanism advantageously includes exchanging public keys and then using the public keys to mutually authenticate the MN and PGN. The configuration data sent from the PGN to the MN using the encrypted channel advantageously includes providing Mobile Internet Protocol (MIP) configuration data and the IP Security protocol (IPsec) configuration data. The MN may then connect to a non-GPRS wireless local network and establish a MIP session across the non-GPRS network as a tunneled session using a IPsec encapsulating security payload (ESP).

    • Disclosed embodiments include a method for synchronizing a cryptosystem. In one embodiment, the method uses existing control data that is transmitted as part of a connection establishment process in a wireless communication system. In one embodiment, messages that are normally sent between a base station and a remote unit during the setup of both originating and terminating calls are parsed to detect a particular control message that indicates the start of telephony data transmission. Detection of this message indicates a point at which encryption/decryption can begin, and is used to synchronize the cryptosystem. Synchronizing a cryptosystem involves generating an RC4 state space in a keyed-autokey (nullKEKnull) encryption system. In one embodiment, Lower Medium Access Channel (nullLMACnull) messages are used according to a wireless communication protocol. This is convenient because the LMAC messages are passed through the same Associated Control Channel (nullACCnull) processing that encrypts and decrypts the telephony data.
