    • A container breach detector system to monitor breaches of a transportation container. A self-contained container breach detector provides activation, status, and/or breach event date and time stamp data and a unique identification number of a communication tower, for a user to determine when and where authorized and/or unauthorized breaches of the transportation container occurred. Furthermore, the self-contained container breach detector serves as a recording device to record the activation, status, and/or breach event date and time stamp data; and communicates via various communication means including text via short message service, SMS, and/or e-mail. A container breach detector is intended for a one-time use only, to be discarded at destination. Each container breach detector has individual serial numbers. An encapsulating composition ensures that the self-contained container breach detector is used only once, and is not removed, recharged and reused, whereby removal of the encapsulating composition would damage its electrical system.

    • An improved alarm system for monitoring movement through a passageway defined by opposing sidewalls. The alarm system has a lower passage indicator disposed toward the lower ends of the sidewalls, an upper passage indicator disposed toward the upper ends of the sidewalls and a control mechanism configured to sound an alarm if the lower passage indicator indicates passage through the passageway and the upper passage indicator does not. In one embodiment, each of the passage indicator comprises transducers that are configured to direct and receive sound waves, such as ultrasound waves, and provide lower and upper ultrasound waves that act as lower and upper barriers. If only the lower barrier is interrupted, indicating a child passing through the passageway, the control mechanism will generate an alarm signal. If both barriers are interrupted, indicating an adult passing through the passageway, the control mechanism will not generate the alarm signal.

Implementations are configured to quickly and reliably report the room or portion of a room where gunfire is located. Innovations herein may ensure low false alarm rate by thresholding, pattern recognition and/or detecting the muzzle optical flash. In some embodiments, a review center with trained personnel may evaluate the incident before reporting to local authorities. The indoor system can be incorporated into an outdoor gunshot location system to better protect a local area such as a campus or a transportation hub. Systems and methods herein may involve features and functionality associated with additional resources, such as intercoms, cellphones, and access control, to provide mitigation of harm in case of a shooting.

    • A method includes receiving audible sound signals such as the cries of a baby via a microphone of a monitor, and processing the signals to identify whether a predetermined acoustic signature is present. An alert may be generated when the predetermined acoustic signature is present. An information data signal such as a discrete data packet quantifies how closely the sounds match the predetermined signature, and is transmitted to a remote device. The server may aggregate these data packets over time and calculate a variance between the aggregated data packets and a baseline. A report may be generated describing the sound signals and variance. A monitoring system having the monitor and a server are also disclosed.

One example apparatus is a monitoring device for monitoring theft or sales activity associated with a product pusher device. The processor may be configured to receive at least one sensor signal from the sensor indicating movement of the pusher member, determine a product movement activity type based on characteristics of the at least one sensor signal, and generate, for transmission via the wireless communications interface, a pusher activity message indicating the product movement activity type.
