    • Photosensitive materials are described which may be used in a variety of applications such as making dry transfer materials, resist masks, printing plates and silk screen stencils. The material consists of two carrier sheets may be peeled apart and which are laminated together via at least two interlayers viz. a photosensitive layer and an image forming layer. Prior to exposure, if the carrier sheets are peeled apart the carrier sheet adjacent the photosensitive layer separates wholly from it leaving both photosensitive layer and image forming layer on the other carrier sheet. After exposure, if the sheets which are peeled apart the whole of the photosensitive layer and at least part of the image forming layer remains attached to the carrier sheet adjacent the photosensitive layer.By incorporating adhesive in or adjacent the shearable image forming layer, the photosensitive material may constitute a material from which dry transfers may be manufactured simply by imagewise exposure and peeling apart.

    • The invention provides a novel method for the preparation of a printing plate suitable for dry planographic printing without supply of dampening water utilizing the ink-repellency of a cured silicone resin. In the inventive method, a base plate provided with two successive layers of a first adhesive agent and a photocurable organopolysiloxane composition is overlaid with a UV-transparent covering sheet provided with a layer of a second adhesive agent in such a manner that the layers of the organopolysiloxane composition and the second adhesive agent are in direct contact with each other and irradiated with UV light pattern-wise through the sheet. The adhesive bonding strength between the second adhesive agent and the organopolysiloxane composition exhibited by the exposure to light is larger than between the first adhesive agent and the organopolysiloxane composition so that peeling of the covering sheet off the base plate leaves the layer of the organopolysiloxane composition pattern-wise in the unirradiated areas, which is subsequently photocured by the second exposure to light to give image-wise ink-repellent areas formed of the cured organopolysiloxane composition bonded to the base plate useful as a planographic printing plate of high durability.

    • A presensitized light sensitive sheet structure suitable for producing a dry transfer element, comprising a transparent substrate having a release coating thereon, and overlying the release coating a photo-sensitive layer comprising a conventional photopolymerizable compound, an initiator therefor, and a binder. After light exposure to an original through the transparent substrate and development to remove unexposed portions, the remaining image portions have a greater adhesion for a receptor surface when applied thereto under pressure than the adhesion of the indicia to the transparent substrate under like pressure.

    • A dry system for forming and transferring images is provided. The system comprises a photoactive component comprising a tacky photohardenable layer on a selected carrier sheet and a transfer component comprising a frangible color layer on a selected carrier sheet. The two components are disposed with their photohardenable and color layers in air-free contact with one another and then subjected to irradiation with actinic radiation in accordance with a selected image pattern so as to cause selected portions of the photohardenable layer to harden and fuse to confronting portions of the color layer. Then the two components are separated whereby the fused portions of the color layer are separated from its carrier sheet and transferred to the photoactive component. Thereafter the color layer remaining on the transferable component is coated with a pressure-sensitive adhesive. Finally, the transferable component is positioned with its adhesive coating engaging a receptor substrate and the rear side of its carrier sheet is rubbed hard or burnished with a suitable implement so as to cause the remaining image-defining portions of the color layer to separate from its carrier sheet and adhere to the receptor substrate.
