    • A plastic barb clamp provides leakproof connection of a flexible tube in a barb fitting. The barb clamp includes a collet and a sleeve. The barb clamp is configured to fit snugly within the tube. The collet is slid over the tube. Annular retainers on the interior surface of the collet fit tightly around the tube and under an expanded portion of the barb fitting. The sleeve is then slid over the collet. As the sleeve moves over the collet, tangs on the collet are pushed radially inwardly into the tube and barb fitting. The exterior surface of the collet has radial projections or expanded diameter portions for locking with the sleeve. The sleeve has an annular projection or a reduced diameter portion on the interior surface of the sleeve to correspond to the exterior surface of the collet to provide a secure lock between the collet and sleeve. To properly orientate the sleeve relative to the collet, the sleeve and collet can be molded as one piece, wherein the sleeve and collet are connected by thin, frangible pieces of plastic.

    • A method of applying a self-tightening hose clamp including the steps of providing a self-tightening hose clamp having a flexible member with a substantially circular shape and disposed in a first plane. The flexible member being expandable from a first position defining a first opening to a second position defining a second opening, the second opening being larger than the first opening. The flexible member also having first and second spaced apart ends. The flexible member is expanded from the first position to the second position. A first tubular member is then received in the opening of the hose clamp and the hose clamp is translated in a first direction along the first tubular member. The tubular member having a hollow chamber extending therethrough. A second tubular member is placed within the hollow chamber of the first tubular member, and the hose clamp is translated along the first tubular member to a position overlapping the second tubular member. The hose clamp is then allowed to contract back to the first position from the second position.

    • The invention relates to a pipe structure (10) comprising a length of a flexible pipe connected to an end fitting, the flexible pipe comprising an armour layer (11; 19) and an underlying pipe layer (12; 11) to said armour layer, said underlying pipe layer having an outer surface around which armouring wires (111; 191) of an armouring layer are helically wound. The object of the present invention is to provide a coupling between a flexible pipe comprising armouring wires and an end fitting, the coupling exerting a relatively low bending or flexure strain on the wires during normal operation of the flexible pipe. The problem is solved in that the transition path of an armouring wire between the flexible pipe and the end fitting comprises an straight-line-section (194) between a wire-pipe-exit-point (195) where the wire extends away from its underlying pipe layer and a straight-line-end-point (196) on a support unit (15) of the end fitting where the armouring wire in question has its first tangential point of contact. This ahs the advantage that in a loaded situation where the armouring wires will elongate elastically leading to a change in the helical angle of the armouring wires, a pipe structure according to the invention will experience a slight twist and a controlled bending of the armouring wires on the surface of the support unit (due to a possible change in the base point of contact of the armouring wire with the support unit induced by the change of helical angle), thereby avoiding substantial bending of the individual armouring wires, which is of particular importance when the armouring wires are formed of a composite material. The invention may be used in flexible pipes for the off shore transport of fluids (e.g. oil).

    • A method of relating elastic cord to a pre-existing linear structure such as a wire, tube or non-elastic cordage in order to deform said structure and impart elastic handling properties of a common curly cord. The resulting assembly is a foreshortened version of the pre-existing length that is axially elastic and therefore easier to handle, store and use. The preferred method involves creating attachments between one or more stretched elastic cords and a linear structure at close intervals along the structure such that when the elastic is allowed to retract, it pulls the subject structure into a series of substantially uniform loops or bends depending on the shape of stiffness of the original structure. Methods of attachment between the linear structure and the elastic may vary, but the preferred embodiment would be a series of slipknots. An alternative method of relating the elastic with the linear structure is described wherein the elastic is attached only at the ends and both the elastic and the linear structure are contained together in a flexible sheath so that the entire assembly is foreshortened and assumes axial elastic properties.
