    • A circular knitting machine is provided that has a bed member and a needle cylinder including a cylinder base rotatably mounted to the bed member. The knitting machine also has a bearing assembly positioned between the bed member and the cylinder base for rotatable mounting of the bed member to the cylinder base. First and second tracks are respectively mounted to the first and second races, and bearings are positionally supported by and between the first and second tracks so that the cylinder base freely rotates about the bed member. A thermal-expansion compensator is preferably integrally formed with either the cylinder base or the bed member and is positioned closely adjacent the corresponding race respectively connected to either the cylinder base or the bed member. The compensator is adapted for compensating for thermal expansion in the cylinder base during heating and cooling thereof. The compensator preferably includes a flexible flange integrally formed with either the cylinder base or the bed member and positioned closely adjacent the corresponding race. The race positioned closely adjacent the flexible flange is preferably slidably connected to the corresponding cylinder base or bed member so that slidably movement of the corresponding race responsive to heating and cooling of the cylinder base thereby moves the flexible flange.

    • A needle roller bearing is directed to avoid a possibility that an inner peripheral surface of a bore in a housing may be ground or scraped by an edge defining a peripheral lip region of an opening in an outer race when a needle roller bearing is to be press-fitted into the bore in the housing and also to eliminate the need to adjust the position of a roller retainer while increasing a physical strength of the roller retainer. For this purpose, the outer race is formed with a first opening having a pair of axially spaced tabs bent so as to incline radially inwardly of the outer race from the remaining portion of the outer race. The roller retainer is in the form of a tubular member having a circumferentially continuous wall formed with a second opening at a location aligned with the first opening in the outer race. The roller retainer has a substantially intermediate portion protruding radially outwardly so as to have an outer diameter greater than that of any one of the opposite ends of the roller retainer.

    • A generally flat, flexible, resilient, double faced spring used in combination with a generally flat spacer with the spring having the same number of uniform protrusions on each of its flat surfaces, the protrusions on each surface being equidistant from each other. The protrusions have spherical tips which function as multiple fulcrums, a spherical tip protrusion on one side of the spring surface being precisely halfway between the spherical protrusion on the other surface such that no protrusion on one surface is exactly opposite a protrusion on the other. The essentially flat spacer is equipped with protrusion receiving recesses spaced to coincide with the locations of the protrusion on the adjacent spring. The tip of each protrusion of a spring is in alignment with a respective spacer recess so that when multiprotrusion springs are combined with a spacer, they are prevented by the recesses from laterally shifing or moving into a rotational position.

    • The springs in accordance with this invention comprise flat, double surfaced components of resilient, flexible material, which components have an equal number of uniform projections or protrusions on each side. The protrusions or projections are rounded or generally spherically shaped, and equally spaced one from another, with the protrusions on one surface of the flat component being precisely intermediate the protrusions on the other surface. Where protrusions are formed by a press which forms a dent in one surface, dents and protrusions alternate on each surface, whereas the side or surface of the component opposite each solid protrusion is flat. The springs are controlled by simple beam deflection. They are inexpensive to produce and may be employed in numerous systems to minimize friction, overheating, stress, fatigue or deformation, damp oscillations or vibrations and maintain alignment.

    • A hub includes an axle. Each end of the axle has an annular groove and a longitudinal groove. A dust cap, two bearings and a cone are provided on each end of the axle.
