    • A method of sizing insulating glass fibers, comprising: preparing glass fibers by a high temperature aerodynamic procedure in which glass fibers are drawn out by a gas current and collected in a hood; spraying a size diluted in water onto said glass fibers in said collection hood, said size consisting essentially of an epoxy resin, an amino hardening agent and, as additives, 0.1 to 2.0% of a silane and 0 to 15% of a mineral oil, each calculated on 100 parts of dry resin, wherein said epoxy resin is a condensation product of epichlorohydrin and bisphenol A having a polymerization index n of less than 1 and the equivalent molar mass of the hardening agent is less than 100 g and said size is free of formaldehyde and components which release formaldehyde when baked; and recovering a sized insulating glass fiber product.

    • An aqueous emulsion of an organic peroxide that is liquid at a temperature of 20.degree. C. and that is insoluble or has limited solubility in water is provided that has improved shelf-stability, shear-stability and process stability and has good dilutability and has a particle size of around 1.5 microns or less. The emulsion has from 1 weight percent of the emulsion to about 70 weight percent of the emulsion of an organic peroxide that is a liquid at 20.degree. C. and in particular that has a half-life exceeding 60 hours at 212.degree. F. (100.degree. C.) and 20 minutes at 300.degree. F. (149.degree. C.) The emulsion also has about 0.005 to about 15 weight percent of the emulsion of a nonionic emulsifier blend. The emulsifier blend has three emulsifiers selected from polyalkylene glycol ethers, dialkylaryl polyether alcohols, and polyoxy-propylene-polyoxyethylene condensates and the like nonionic emulsifiers having a particluar HLB range for each of the three emulsifiers. The remaining weight percent of the emulsion is water.The method of preparing the aqueous emulsion involves the addition of the emulsifier blend to the liquid peroxide. One of the emulsions is split into two portions for the addition.The aqueous organic peroxide-containing emulsion is incorporated into a sizing composition for treating glass fibers to produce treated glass fibers for use as reinforcement in polymers.

[Also in Divisions C3 and Dl] A finish coating on glass fabrics is obtained by applying to the fabric an aqueous composition comprising (a) an organopolysiloxane containing silicon-bonded hydrogen, (b) an incompletely cured water-insoluble fabric-finishing resin in emulsified form, the resin having reactive groups, and (e) a water-soluble difunctional organic compound, the functional groups of which are separated by more than 10 carbon atoms, a first of the functional groups being reactive with the silicon-bonded hydrogen of (a) and the other being reactive with the groups of (b). The proportions of (a), (b) and (c) are preferably 5 to 50%, 0.5 to 20% and 5 to 20%, respectively of the weight of the aqueous composition. Pigments and dyes may be added. Examples of fabricfinishing resins (b) are acrylic acid polymers and copolymers which may contain amino groups, and also mentioned are polyesters, polyamides, phenol-, urea- and melamine-formaldehyde resins, epoxy polymers and polyurethanes. The compounds specified as difunctional compounds (c) are water-soluble epoxy resins which have been modified by reaction with diethanolamine to replace one terminal glycidyl group by a hydroxyamine group or with a polyglycol to provide a hydroxypolyethenoxy group at one end. Other materials which may be used as (e) are polyglycols and straight chain polyesters, polyamines and polyamides. After drying and curing to form a film on the fabric, a water-proofing solution of a chromium organo complex may be applied.
