摘要： A process for decorating articles, such as jewelry, is disclosed in which the article is coated with two or more visibly different layers having binders soluble in a common solvent, each layer is dried before the next layer is applied and the final layer is applied wet with the solvent in sufficient concentration to at least soften the binder of any underlying layer. A pattern is made by applying pressure selectively to or otherwise redistributing the final and any at least softened underlying layer to expose one or more of the underlying layers. For example, a concentric wood ring effect is obtained by applying a greater pressure to the central portion of an article such as a ring coated with multiple layers of lacquer.

摘要： An enzyme catalyst is described. The catalyst comprises subcellular particulates of vegetable material containing an enzyme system composed of different carbohydrate transforming enzymes. These particulates are encapsulated within a matrix formed by coagulating an organic entrapping agent with polyvalent cations. The matrix is permeable to permit access of carbohydrate substrate to enzyme and acts to immobilize the enzyme system and preserve the activity of the encapsulated enzymes.

摘要： A stereo relief modelling apparatus based on photogrammetric method and apparatus comprising a flexible platen, used with standard stereo plotting instrumentation such as double-projection direct-viewing plotting instruments. The purpose of the flexible platen is to provide an absolute stereo image for photographic, modelling and other purposes. The flexible platen, which is of sufficient size to provide a meaningful mapping surface, is vertically adjustable at a multiplicity of points by mechanical, pneumatic, electro-mechanical, fully automated, or other means to provide an actual model-like three-dimensional photographic or modelling surface to enable relief distortion from aerial photographs to be effectively eliminated in planimetric photographs which are taken of the adjusted flexible platen, or models molded on the adjusted flexible platen, upon which the aerial images are projected. Modelling is facilitated by situating the platen inside a sealable vacuum box from which the air is removable.In another embodiment, a computer system may be utilized with the stereo modelling apparatus to provide stereo or three-dimensional relief maps of mathematical functions generated by such system.

In another form, the frames are molded with a plurality of equispaced protrusions around which filament material may be wrapped and retained thereby to form the envelope of filamentary wrappings. The frames are also constructed so that they may be easily assembled and retained together to form a three-dimensional skeletal support for the filamentary material.

摘要： A mobile geometrical form in the general shape of a hyperbolic paraboloid is described as made from a continuous strip of material to form a continuously twisted shape having both an external edge and an internal edge. The internal edge of the form defines an opening centrally in the form. The form has two distinct continuous surfaces on opposing sides of the strip from which the form is made. Each side or surface has four lines of inflection to result in four surface portions having successive concave and convex contours. Opposing surface portions of the strip between the same inflection lines have opposing concave and convex contours. The form is made of a semi-rigid flexible material such as sheet metal. In this manner, the strip can assume the predetermined geometrical form in an infinite number of relative positions of the strip. The stresses established in the strip redistribute themselves in each relative position of the strip as the latter translates along a path generally defined by the form itself to maintain the shape of the same.

摘要： A process is disclosed for making articles of ornamental or unusual appearances by cutting and heating operations performed on a plurality of layers of thermoplastic film material which has been stretched, preferably in two directions at right angles to each other, during manufacture, so as to fuse the layers of material together at least at their edges and in most cases cause contraction of the film in directions parallel to their faces and expansion in a direction perpendicular thereto. A particularly effective procedure is to form an elongated composite roll or bundle of the film material or rods of thermoplastic material or both and to then slice the resulting structure transversely into wafers. These wafers may be heated differentially to cause them to deform into unusual shapes. A number of different types of articles thus made are also shown.
