    • A DC-DC converter for converting DC power received from a high-voltage DC power supply to a well-regulated output voltage that is significantly lower than the received voltage. The converter includes a regulated voltage-reduction stage which receives high-voltage DC electrical power and supplies DC electrical power at a voltage which is lower than that received. The converter also includes a separately regulated electrically isolated stage, energized by electrical power received from the voltage-reduction stage, that supplies DC electrical power to a load at the significantly lower output voltage. A feedback circuit couples an output signal from the output of the isolation-stage for regulating operation of the voltage-reduction stage and of the isolation stage.

    • A power converter nearly losslessly delivers energy and recovers energy from capacitors associated with controlled rectifiers in a secondary winding circuit, each controlled rectifier having a parallel uncontrolled rectifier. First and second primary switches in series with first and second primary windings, respectively, are turned on for a fixed duty cycle, each for approximately one half of the switching cycle. Switched transition times are short relative to the on-state and off-state times of the controlled rectifiers. The control inputs to the controlled rectifiers are cross-coupled from opposite secondary transformer windings.

    • The invention relates to an inverter including an output regulating mechanism which is simplified in its construction and suitable for reduction of the manufacturing cost. The output regulating mechanism comprises a volume control adapted to be applied with an input voltage for said booster transformer periodically changing as the inverter oscillates, control means adapted to pulse-convert the output signal of the volume control and thereby to output a control signal which has been pulse width modulated according to the output signal of the volume control, and switching means provided on an input current path for the booster transformer so as to be turned ON and OFF with the control signal provided from the control means.

    • A shunt switch comprised of a field-effect transistor (Q.sub.1) is employed to commutate a current-fed inverter (10) using thyristors (SCR1, SCR2) or bijunction transistors (Q.sub.2, Q.sub.3) in a full bridge (1, 2, 3, 4) or half bridge (5, 6) and transformer (T.sub.1) configuration. In the case of thyristors, a tapped inverter (12) is employed to couple the inverter to a dc source to back bias the thyristors during commutation. Alternatively, a commutation power supply (20) may be employed for that purpse. Diodes (D.sub.1, D.sub.2) in series with some voltage dropping element (resistor R.sub.12 or resistors R.sub.1, R.sub.2 or Zener diodes D.sub.4, D.sub.5) are connected in parallel with the thyristors in the half bridge and transformer configuration to assure sharing the back bias voltage. A clamp circuit comprised of a winding (18) negatively coupled to the inductor and a diode (D.sub.3) return stored energy from the inductor to the power supply for efficient operation with buck or boost mode.

    • A voltage stabilizer includes the series combination of a series regulator element and inductor and an inverter circuit connected across a direct voltage supply. The series regulator is controlled by a comparator which compares the stabilized output voltage with a reference voltage. A diode energized in the forward direction by inductive turn-off voltage appearing on the inductor is connected in shunt with the series combination of inductor and inverter circuit. A series combination of a diode energized in the forward direction by the inductive turn-off voltages appearing on the inductor and the parallel combination of a resistor and a capacitor may be connected in shunt with the input of the inverter circuit. The inverter may be of the push-pull parallel or bridge type. The inverter output may be inductively coupled with the series control element.
