    • A multi-layered optical disk reading method which reproduces encoded data from each data layer by focusing a laser beam precisely onto the data layer of the multi-layered optical disk. After a multi-layered optical disk is loaded, a central processing unit (CPU) receives an operator's signal to access a certain data layer. Then the CPU refers to stored data in the CPU's memory for diffraction angle to focus the laser beam onto the certain data layer. The CPU retrieves an operational coded signal, and transmits the signal to a liquid crystal diffraction device to modulate the liquid crystal diffraction device to deflect and focus the laser beam onto the certain data layer. After the liquid crystal diffraction device is modulated by the operational signal from the CPU, the CPU also operates a routing circuit to transmit a read-out signal from a detector which receives a reflected laser beam from the certain data layer, to a selected decoding circuit in a data processor.

    • An electrochromic display device (ECD) for an optical pick-up apparatus which is capable of maximizing a transmissivity of a laser beam by forming a reflection prevention layer on the outer surfaces of transparent substrates, includes first and second transparent substrates formed at both sides of the ECD with a predetermined interval therebetween, first and second transparent electrodes coated on the inner surfaces of the transparent substrates, respectively, an electrochromic layer coated on the inner surface of the second transparent electrode so that colorizing or decolorizing may be carried out reversibly, a counter eletrode layer coated on the inner surface of the first transparent electrode, an electrolytic layer formed between the counter electrode layer and the electrochromic layer, and a reflection prevention layer coated to have more than one layer so as to prevent a beam from being reflected on the outer surfaces of the first and second transparent substrates.

    • An optical pickup apparatus includes an objective lens having a numeric aperture and an incident face. An antireflection coating is formed on the incident face. A collimating lens converts laser light from a laser diode into parallel light, and causes the parallel light to be made incident on the incident face through the antireflection coating. The thickness of the antireflection coating causes a transmittance of laser light that enters the objective lens to be: set at a first predetermined transmittance value, when the numeric aperture is between zero and a first predetermined numeric aperture value; set to correlate linearly with the numeric aperture when the numeric aperture is between the first predetermined numeric aperture value and a second predetermined numeric aperture value; and set at a second predetermined transmittance value, when the numeric aperture is between the second predetermined numeric aperture value and a third predetermined numeric aperture value.
