    • Machines, systems and methods for task management in a computer implemented system. The method comprises registering a task with brokers residing on one or more nodes to manage the execution of a task to completion, wherein a first broker is accompanied by a first set of worker threads co-located on the node on which the first broker is executed, wherein the first broker assigns responsibility of execution for the task to the one or more worker threads in the first set of co-located worker threads, wherein in response to a failure associated with a first worker thread in the first set, the first broker reassigns the responsibility of execution for the task to a second worker thread in the first set, wherein in response to a failure associated with the first broker, a second broker assigns responsibility of execution for the task to one or more co-located worker threads.

    • There are described a system, apparatus and/or method according to which collected history data from monitorable and/or manageable entities within a server estate or data center is used to tailor a model to the past behavior and/or loading upon individual ones or parts of ones of the entities. The tailored model can then be used to predict a future value for one or more metrics included in the history data for an entity or part of an entity under consideration. The predicted value can then be used to determine whether some form of corrective action is required in respect of the entity, entity part or some other entity or entity part. Alternatively or in addition, predicted values for more than one entity or entity part can be aggregated to determine whether some form of corrective action is required in respect of the entity, entity part or some other entity or entity part. A corrective action can be applied on an automated or on a manual basis.

    • An embodiment of the invention provides a method for adaptive auto-pipelining of a stream processing application, wherein the stream processing application includes one or more threads. Runtime of the stream processing application is initiated with a stream processing application manager. The stream processing application is monitored with a monitoring module during the runtime, wherein the monitoring of the stream processing application includes identifying threads in the stream processing application that execute operators in a data flow graph, and determining an amount of work that each of the threads are performing on operators of the logical data flow graph. A processor identifies one or more operators in the data flow graph to add one or more additional threads based on the monitoring of the stream processing application during the runtime.
