If the document is bulky like a book and is placed on a document table by opening an automatic document feeder or if it is or sheet-like but long and cannot be wrapped around a document winding cylinder, the optical system is moved to scan the document. If the document is sheet-like and sufficiently short, it is wrapped around the cylinder and is scanned by a stationary optical system while the cylinder is rotated.

The size of an original document which is positioned on a glass platen with one corner portion of the glass platen as a reference is sensed, and a lens included in the optics is displaced in response to the document size sensed. A paper sheet is transported with its center with respect to the widthwise direction registered aligned with the center of an image which is provided on the photoconductive element.

摘要： A facsimile apparatus for copying a document is described. The apparatus includes an optical system comprising a light source for illuminating a document and a fixed mirror and a lens for guiding the light from the light source reflected by the document. A line sensor converts the light-guided by the optical system into an electrical image signal. An electrostatic recording mechanism including a photosensitive body forms an image corresponding to the light entered onto the photosensitive body on a recording medium. A movable mirror selectively images the light guided by the fixed mirror and the lens onto one of the line sensor and the photosensitive body. A control system switches the position of the movable mirror such that the light guided by the fixed mirror and the lens is imaged onto the photosensitive body when the document is copied and is imaged onto the line sensor when the document is transmitted. In another embodiment, the light reflected by the document passes through the lens and is entered into the line sensor by a half mirror. The remaining light is entered onto the photosensitive body. According to the present invention, the image on the document is entered directly onto the photosensitive body, thereby improving the quality of the copied image.

In addition, this microfilm reader-printer includes a freely attachable and detachable developing apparatus which develops the image bearing roll, an apparatus which transfers a toner image formed on the image bearer to the recording paper, and a microcomputer which controls the image formation unit so as to bring only the image formation operation to a standstill when the developing apparatus is not set on the image formation unit.

摘要： A document size detecting device with the arm which folds by interlocking with the reciprocating motion of the optical system of the image forming apparatus and extends and contracts by interlocking with the reciprocating motion of the optical system. The optical sensor for detection of the document size is installed at a prescribed position of the arm and the feeder line for the light source is held. Therefore, the special mechanism for holding the feeder line is not necessary and it is possible to achieve simplified construction of the image forming apparatus. Also, because the feeder line is caused to curve along the outside of the arm at the rotating section thereof, it is possible to provide a large radius of the bent portion of the feeder line, there will be no considerably concentrated stress which is locally applied to the feeder line, therefore the life of the feeder line can be extended.
