摘要： A wall mount fiber optic connector includes a connector body portion to be mounted on a wall of an electronic system, and the connector body portion has ferrule-receiving passageways therein. Opto-electronic (O/E) converters are coupled to the ferrule-receiving passageways, with each O/E converter being associated with a respective ferrule-receiving passageway. Biasing members are coupled to the O/E converters, with each biasing member urging a respective O/E converter forward. The wall mount fiber optic connector also includes flexible circuits, with each flexible circuit having a first end coupled to a respective O/E converter. A printed circuit board is coupled to second ends of the flexible circuits. An electrical connector portion is carried by the connector body portion and is coupled to the printed circuit board.

摘要： A transceiver assembly for use in fiber optic communications systems where multiple optical fibers are used in transmitting and receiving optical signals. The assembly is adapted for being mechanically and optically connected with a ferrule supporting a set of optical communications fibers. The transceiver assembly supports an optoelectronic device having a corresponding set of photoactive components which are operative for either converting photonic signals to electrical signals (in a receiver) or converting electrical signals to photonic signals (in a transmitter). The transceiver assembly includes a frame section having a carrier which is precisely fabricated for supporting the optoelectronic device and includes an alignment structure for cooperating with the optical ferrule to align the photoactive components with the fibers in the ferrule. The frame section is part of a larger carrier assembly including a multilayer circuit board which may include a microcontroller chip, an edge connector for electrically connecting with a computer or communications system and a flex circuit which provides communications lines linking the frame section, circuit board and edge connector.

摘要： A light-transmitting module of the present invention includes a light-emitting device such as a laser diode (LD), a transistor for shunting-drive the LD and a CAN type package with a base and an electrically conductive block. The LD and the transistor are mounted on a side of the block in side-by-side arrangement such that the LD substantially positions a center of the package. One of the current terminals of the transistor and one electrode of the LD are connected via the conductive block. The other of the current terminal of the transistor and the other of the electrodes of the LD are connected to one lead, while the control terminal of the transistor is connected to the other lead. Since the present module includes the transistor within the CAN type package, the size thereof may be miniaturized, and the quality of the optical output can be enhanced.

The housing includes a fiber optic connector adapted for coupling with an external optical fiber for transmitting and/or receiving an optical communications signal. The rigid printed circuit board is within the housing and includes an electrical connector for coupling with an external electrical cable or information system device, and for transmitting and/or receiving an information-containing electrical communications signal. A first interface connector is for receiving or transferring the electrical signal. A flexible printed circuit board is also within the housing and coupled to the rigid printed circuit board, including a second interface connector for mating with the first interface connector, and transmitting or receiving the electrical signal to or from the rigid printed circuit board. An electro-optical subassembly on the flex board is for converting between an electrical signal and a modulated optical signal. The flex board is adapted for coupling to the fiber optic connector.

The flexible circuit has various electronic components and either a photodiode or a laser transmitter disposed on and electrically connected to it. In addition, there can be electrical contacts disposed on and electrically connected to the flexible circuit. These electrical contacts can take the form of pads that are a standard form factor pluggable configuration, such as the Multisource Agreement Standard Form Factor Pluggable (MSA SFP) standard.

摘要： A process is provided for aligning and connecting at least one optical fiber to at least one optoelectronic device so as to couple light between at least one optical fiber and at least one optoelectronic device. One embodiment of this process comprises the following steps: (1) holding at least one optical element close to at least one optoelectronic device, at least one optical element having at least a first end; (2) aligning at least one optical element with at least one optoelectronic device; (3) depositing a first non-opaque material on a first end of at least one optoelectronic device; and (4) bringing the first end of at least one optical element proximate to the first end of at least one optoelectronic device in such a manner that the first non-opaque material contacts the first end of at least one optoelectronic device and the first end of at least one optical element. The optical element may be an optical fiber, and the optoelectronic device may be a vertical cavity surface emitting laser. The first non-opaque material may be a UV optical adhesive that provides an optical path and mechanical stability. In another embodiment of the alignment process, the first end of at least one optical element is brought proximate to the first end of at least one optoelectronic device in such a manner that an interstitial space exists between the first end of at least one optoelectronic device and the first end of at least one optical element.

摘要： This invention relates to an optical transmitter, receiver or transceiver module, and more particularly, to an apparatus for connecting a first optical connector to a second optical connector. The apparatus comprises: (1) a housing having at least a first end and at least a second end, the first end of the housing capable of receiving the first optical connector, and the second end of the housing capable of receiving the second optical connector; (2) a longitudinal cavity extending from the first end of the housing to the second end of the housing; and (3) an electromagnetic shield comprising at least a portion of the housing. This invention also relates to an apparatus for housing a flexible printed circuit board, and this apparatus comprises: (1) a mounting structure having at least a first surface and a second surface; (2) alignment ridges along the first and second surfaces of the mounting structure, the alignment ridges functioning to align and secure a flexible printed circuit board that is wrapped around and attached to the first and second surfaces of the mounting structure; and (3) a series of heat sink ridges adapted to the mounting structure, the heat sink ridges functioning to dissipate heat that is generated from the flexible printed circuit board.
