    • A variable displacement rotary piston pump has a rotor splined to a driven shaft, a plurality of radially directed cylinders, each having a slidable piston fitted therein, a pumping ring surrounding the rotor and mounted eccentrically of the axis of the rotor with which the pistons maintain contact and are caused to move within the cylinders, a piston return ring engageable with notches formed on the pistons and an eccentric mounted for rotation to which the pumping ring is secured having an actuator pin whose movement determines the position of the pumping ring with respect to the rotor, thereby regulating the flow rate of the pump. The pump destrokes above the idle speed of the engine from which it is driven and limits the flow rate of the pump. A venturi orifice establishes a differential pressure which is applied across a flow control valve, which directs hydraulic fluid at discharge pressure to one or the other of two control pistons thereby adjusting the eccentric position. A left- right turn valve adapts the pump for use in a power steering system in a motor vehicle. A cam follower compresses fluid which is metered to the flow control valve and direct hydraulic fluid at discharge pressure to the left and right ends of a power steering cylinder.

    • A pump has a rotatable rotor carrying a plurality of radially-extending pistons bearing at their outer ends on an annular adjustment ring which can be displaced radially in the pump housing by means of a pair of diametrically opposed adjustment cylinders that serve to displace this ring and adjust the stroke of the radial pistons in the rotor. One of the adjustment pistons is of larger diameter than the other and both of the adjustment pistons are spring-biased against the outer periphery of the adjustment ring and both have throughgoing bores so that pressure behind these adjustment pistons is fed to pressure-relief pockets at their inner ends against the adjustment ring. The small-diameter piston is provided in its through-going passage with a pressure-limiting valve which only allows pressure past to its respective pressure-relief pocket when pressure behind the smaller piston exceeds a predetermined minimum which is approximately a tenth of the maximum pump operating pressure. Thus during starting-up of the pump the pressure-relief pocket at the small piston is not pressurized to increase friction between the inner end of this piston and the adjustment ring so as to inhibit rotation of the adjustment ring around the rotor.

    • The invention relates to a radial piston type pump comprising a casing, a shaft, two or more piston carriers mounted on and driven by the shaft, and a curved track surrounding the piston carriers. The piston carriers are axially movable on the shaft and pressure chamber and scaling means are provided between adjacent carriers to bias them in opposite directions against the internal casing walls which form a chamber in which the carriers are rotatably mounted. Fluid inlet and outlet means in one of these casing walls has fluid communication with the inlet and outlet passages in the carriers and the biasing of a carrier against this wall serves to provide sealing between the relatively rotating surfaces to minimize the leaking of fluid between these surfaces.
