    • Drug eluting stented tubular grafts wherein the stent is coated with a coat comprising a composite of at least one biocompatible, pharmaceutically acceptable, bioerodible polymer and at least one therapeutic substance. The polymer may be a polyester. The therapeutic agent may include selective gene delivery vectors, sirolimus, actinomycin-D and paclitaxel. The stented grafts include an integrally stented embodiment and an internally stented embodiment. In each embodiment, the stent may be either self-expanding or pressure-expandable. Further, the stent may comprise a plurality of elements, wherein each said element comprises an undulating linear shape formed into a generally cylindrical configuration, and wherein each said element is connected to an adjacent neighbor element by at least one linear connector. A method for the treatment of cardiovascular disease by implantation of the stented graft, and an article of manufacture, comprising packaging material and the stented graft are also taught.

    • A microbicidal organic polymer material for use in manufacturing of contact lenses, catheters, condoms, surgical sutures and gloves, medical examination devices and similar uses is provided by polymers to which is tightly adsorbed a disinfectant organic dye. Many polymers such as polyvinyl chloride and acrylic polymers show exceptional avidity for a number of microbicides, of acidic, basic, aromatic and/or hydrophobic character such as methylene blue and gentian violet. Consequently, devices constructed of these polymeric materials release no free dye to an aqueous solution. The material is generally a natural or synthetic polymer that releases no particles or fines into wounds or body orifices. Presence of adsorbed disinfectant organic dye allows the polymer to inhibit microbial growth in a number of different situations. Several common microbes are killed by being incubated in the present of an embodiment of the invention that contains a combination of methylene blue and gentian violet. Absorption of meglumine to the polymers in combination with the organic dyes enhances the anti-infective properties of the material.

    • Polyoxymethylene moulding compositions of the invention comprise (i) at least one polyoxymethylene homo- and/or copolymer, (ii) at least one conventional additive and (iii) at least one polymeric plastics material as an additive for improving the heat stability, and are distinguished in that (iii) is a copolymer which is obtainable by polymerization in bulk of a mixture of A) 60-90 parts of one or more (meth)acrylates, B) 10-40 parts of one or more (meth)acrylamides, C) per 100 parts of A)+B), >0.2 to 5 parts of molecular weight regulator and D) per 100 parts of A)+B), up to 2 parts of lipophilic free radical polymerization initiators, and in that the moulding composition comprises (iii) in an amount of 0.01 to 2 parts, based on the sum of (i)+(ii) where all the amounts relate to parts by weight (wt/wt) and A) and B) together must give 100 parts. By the use of relatively highly regulated bulk co- or terpolymerization for stabilizing POM moulding compositions, advantages over the use of emulsion or suspension bead polymerization result in the heat stability, in the stability against discoloration and/or in the residual monomer contents of POM moulding compositions and shaped articles and shaped films produced therefrom.

    • Disclosed is an oxymethylene copolymer resin composition comprising (A) 100 parts by weight of an oxymethylene copolymer resin comprising a plurality of oxymethylene copolymer chains, each comprising recurring oxymethylene monomer units and oxyalkylene monomer units inserted therein, wherein the oxyalkylene monomer units, each having at least 2 carbon atoms, are present in the oxymethylene copolymer resin in an amount of from 0.05 to 0.5 mol %, based on the oxymethylene monomer units, the plurality of oxymethylene copolymer chains collectively having, as terminal groups, alkoxyl groups each having at least one carbon atom, hydroxyalkyl groups each having at least 2 carbon atoms, and formate groups; (B) 0.01 to 3.0 parts by weight of a poly-.beta.-alanine having an average particle diameter of 6 .mu.m or less; and (C) from 0.001 to 0.6 part by weight of an alkaline earth metal salt of a fatty acid, an amino-substituted triazine or a hydrotalcite.
