摘要： An isothermal method is provided for separating aromatic hydrocarbons from a feed stream. The method includes flowing the feed stream through a first channel within a first wafer assembly that contains a rib member. Next, the feed stream is exposed to a first thin film polymer membrane. A stream permeates through the first thin film polymer membrane into a permeate zone. The permeate zone is heated via a heated fluid contained within the rib member. The permeate is produced from the first wafer assembly. The method may include having a plurality of tandem wafer assemblies arranged in series. An apparatus for separating aromatic components from a feed stream is also disclosed. In the preferred embodiment, the apparatus includes a series of tandem wafer assemblies specifically adapted for blending a transportation fuel.

摘要： A polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell water management device is provided. The device includes a hydrophilic water transport element spanning from inside the fuel cell to outside the fuel cell and disposed between a gas diffusion layer and a current collector layer in the cell. The transport element includes an intermediate wick outside the fuel cell that is hydraulically coupled to the transport element, and has a transport element structure integrated with a flow field structure within the fuel cell. The device further includes an electroosmotic pump, where the pump is located outside the fuel cell and is hydraulically coupled to the intermediate wick. The hydraulically coupled pump actively removes excess water from the flow field structure and the gas diffusion layer through the transport element, where a key aspect of the invention is the decoupling of water removal from oxidant delivery and reduced parasitic loads.

摘要： The invention relates to a device for the separation of a fluid into at least two fractions, using a plurality of membrane filters, and to the use thereof. The inventive device comprises at least one sub-assembly (2a, 2b, 2c) of membrane support plates (8), with a filter membrane (10) being fixed to each of the opposing faces of the above-mentioned plates. According to the invention, the filter membrane is fixed to a part of the membrane support plate (8) that comprises means for guiding a first fraction of the fluid passing through the membranes (10) towards channels which are used to release said first fluid fraction and which are disposed in a lateral part of the plate (8). Moreover, the first fraction of the fluid is recovered inside a recovery space between the membrane (10) and one face of the membrane support plate (8). The membrane support plates (8) of each of the sub-assemblies (2a, 2b, 2c) are assembled to one another in an adjacent manner. Two adjacent plates (8) define a fluid circulation space (13) between the two membranes (10) which are fixed to opposing faces of two adjacent plates (8). The channels used to release the first fluid passing through the membranes (10) comprise, for each of the membrane support plates of the assembly (2a, 2b, 2c) and for each of the first fluid recovery spaces, one portion which is disposed inside a rigid transparent part (16). The aforementioned rigid transparent part is adjacent to a lateral longitudinal edge of the membrane support plate (8) which is associated with a sealing means (17). Furthermore, said sealing means can be actuated in order to stop the fluid from flowing into a corresponding recovery space.

摘要： A filter unit includes membrane plates placed together parallel to one another, which at least in zones around connecting elements for the purpose of draining permeate are connected together liquid-tight. The membrane plates because of their shape and after two membrane plates have been placed one on top of the other are provided for manufacturing a liquid-tight connection or a seal by welding. As a result unfiltered liquid flows through between the membrane plates and contamination of the permeate within a volume situated between the connecting elements is prevented. Over a number of connecting elements and zones located in between it is possible to attach a hollow profile, which is closed-off at its ends. This hollow profile in a liquid-tight manner surrounds discharge openings of the connecting elements and the zones located in between with positive material engagement. As a result, a permeate collection channel is formed, out of which and through a permeate discharge the permeate can be extracted through suction.
