摘要： The wheelchair lift invention mounts to the roof of a vehicle such as an ordinary automobile using commonly available mounting hardware used for attaching a variety of rooftop storage containers to such vehicles. The wheelchair lift, powered by the vehicle's battery, is remotely operable from the driver's seat of the vehicle using a handheld or dash mounted controller. The preferred embodiment permits easy attachment of the wheelchair to a lifting assembly, which is then elevated with the assistance of an electric motor to a rooftop platform. Once securely positioned in a generally flat orientation, a hingedly attached cover member is lowered over the wheelchair and lifting assembly, and latched into position to the platform or support assembly.

Three ramps in triangular array are supported by a support assembly that is raised and lowered by a small motor. The raising and lowering is accomplished by a telescoping member that causes a linkage apparatus to lift the ramp members when the telescoping member is extended and to lower the ramp members when the telescoping member is retracted. The profile of the apparatus is low in that it is positioned below the bottom edge of a station wagon rear door and does not interfere with the opening of that door. A hinge allows folding of the apparatus into a generally vertical plane when not in use.

摘要： An apparatus for loading a scooter-type wheelchair or similar object into a vehicle comparment such that the apparatus and wheelchair loaded are fully contained within the vehicle when in a storage position. The apparatus includes a frame attachable to a lower surface of the vehicle compartment and a platform upon which the wheelchair may be rolled. During a loading cycle, the platform and wheelchair are raised upwardly, traversed toward the vehicle compartment and lowered into the compartment for storage. During this cycle, the platform passes through a vertical plane defining a maximum elevation. The platform includes wheel locators and positioning plates for locating the wheels of the wheelchair as it is positioned on the platform and for preventing the wheelchair from undesired movement once loaded. A vertical shaft is positioned adjacent a track portion of the platform. A horizontal shaft is pivotally attached to the vertical shaft, and a positioning plate for receiving a forward wheel of the wheelchair is pivotally attached to the horizontal shaft such that it has a tilted loading position and a substantially horizontal loaded position.
