摘要： Generally stated, the present invention provides a distinctive absorbent article comprising a backsheet layer, and a topsheet layer which is disposed in facing relation with the backsheet layer. An absorbent body is interposed between the backsheet layer and topsheet layer. The absorbent body includes a retention portion which comprises a matrix of substantially hydrophilic fibers having a distribution of high-absorbency particulate material therein. The hydrophilic fibers and high-absorbency particles can be provided in a fiber-to-particle weight ratio within the range of about 70:30 to about 30:70. A surge management layer, comprising bicomponent fibers having a denier of not more than about 3 d, is located adjacent at least one major, facing surface of the topsheet layer, and can cooperate with the article components to provide for a liquid Penetration Rate index of not less than about 2.67 ml/sec.

摘要： The present invention is directed to a disposable absorbent article, and particularly a sanitary napkin, having a flexure-resistant deformation element, the sanitary napkin having a body surface which has a convex upward configuration when the sanitary napkin is worn. Primarily without relying on lateral compressive forces of the wearer's labia, the sanitary napkin of the present invention relies on the lateral compressive forces of the wearer's thighs in order to form or maintain a convex upward configuration when the sanitary napkin is worn. In a preferred embodiment, the deformation element has a means for inducing the body surface of the sanitary napkin to have a convex upward configuration when the sanitary napkin is worn. In an alternatively preferred embodiment, the sanitary napkin has a central region having a "W" shaped cross-section wherein the body surface of the sanitary napkin having the convex upward configuration is located in the central region, generally symmetrically between the longitudinal side edges of the sanitary napkin. In another alternatively preferred embodiment, the sanitary napkin has a cup-shaped front region and a back region having a convex upward configured body surface. The deformation element may be a moldable substance such as a foam, it may be reformable and/or it may be resilient.

摘要： The present invention provides absorbent articles, such as disposable diapers, which utilize a particular type of stiffened cellulose fibers and a particlar type and form of polymeric gelling agent particles to enhance the absorbency characteristics of such articles. In these articles, the gelling agent material, combined in particulate form of a certain size with stiffened cellulose fiber material, is primarily placed in a lower fluid storage layer of the absorbent core of the article. Such a fluid storage lower layer of the absorbent core is placed underneath an upper, generally larger, fluid acquisition/distribution layer which also contains stiffened cellulose fibers and gelling agent particles of a certain size. This lower fluid storage layer is generally positioned toward the front of the absorbent article. Absorbent articles of this type can be fashioned into especially thin, compact, nonbulky diapers.
