    • A shortest mark 108 is recorded with a single recording pulse. A long mark 125 is recorded with a two-stage pulse including a first-part pulse and a second-part pulse. In the case where each of positions 115 and 118 of front edges of the recording pulses is determined based on a relationship between a length of a space immediately before a mark and that of the mark itself so as to properly position the front edges of reproduced waveforms of all the mark lengths and each of positions of rear edges of the recording pulses of all the mark lengths is fixed so as to satisfy a prescribed relative relationship with an edge of a recording clock, power 122 of a recording pulse 101 of the shortest mark is determined so as to realize a proper rear edge position 112 of the reproduced waveform of the shortest mark and power 124 of a second-part pulse 104 is determined for each mark length so as to realize a proper rear edge position 123 of the reproduced waveform of the long mark.

    • There is provided an optical information recording/reproducing device for recording, reproducing, or erasing information on an optical information recording medium including information tracks formed on a disk substrate including alternating groove tracks and land tracks each including: a header region for recording identification data representing location information in pre-pits; and a data region for recording user data, the pre-pits being grouped into blocks, the blocks wobbling alternately toward an inner periphery or an outer periphery of the disk substrate along a radius direction from a center line of each information track by a distance which is substantially 1/2 of the information track pitch. The pre-pits are provided along the radius direction at a pitch twice as large as the track pitch. The device includes: an optical system for radiating a light beam as a converged beam spot on an information track; an optical detector including two light receiving portions divided in parallel to the track direction for receiving the light beam reflected from the recording medium; a signal generator for generating a differential signal and an addition signal of output signals respectively output from the light receiving portions; a header region detection circuit for determining whether the converged beam spot is tracing the header region or the data region using the differential signal; and at least one reading circuit for reading the identification data from the differential signal and for reading information recorded in the data region from the addition signal.

    • According to a method of the present invention for recording data on an optical disk, a recording pulse corresponding to a long mark includes a combination of a leading pulse and a subsequent intermediate pulse. Further, a level of the leading pulse indicates a first recording power, and a level of the intermediate pulse indicates a second recording power. When an optical disk includes a plurality of recording layers, a ratio of the second recording power to the first recording power is determined for each recording layer. When the recording speed is variable, the ratio of the second recording power to the first recording power is determined for each recording speed.
