    • A method of producing a water-absorbent resin of the present invention reduces amounts of a residual cross-linking agent and a residual surfactant, achieves high productivity, and improves physical properties of the resultant water-absorbent, such as absorption capacity, extractable polymer content, powder friction, and gel crushability. The method includes the steps of: polymerizing an aqueous monomer solution containing as a major component an acrylic acid monomer in the presence of a cross-linking agent; and drying the resultant polymer by heating, in which the cross-linking agent is a multifunctional (meth)acrylate cross-linking agent having polyethylene glycol structural units including a total of 6 to 200 ethylene oxide repeating units, and the aqueous monomer solution includes a mono(meth)acrylate compound having polyethylene glycol structural units in an amount of 0.1 to 30% by weight relative to an amount of the multifunctional (meth)acrylate cross-linking agent.

    • The present invention provides a production process for a water-absorbent resin powder which is excellent in particle diameter distribution and properties, wherein the production process not only inhibits adhesion and aggregation in the production steps, but also is excellent in energy efficiency, drying efficiency, and productivity. The production process for a water-absorbent resin powder comprises the steps of: polymerizing an aqueous monomer solution containing a crosslinking agent; heat-drying the resultant crosslinked hydrogel polymer; and pulverizing the resultant dry polymer; wherein: the dry polymer resultant from the heat-drying step is forcibly cooled before or during the pulverization step; and the water-absorbent resin powder has an average particle diameter of 200 to 600 &mgr;m after the pulverization step wherein the total ratio of particles having particle diameters of not larger than 150 &mgr;m and particles having particle diameters of not smaller than 850 &mgr;m in the water-absorbent resin powder is not more than 15 weight % of the water-absorbent resin powder.

    • The present invention provides a water-absorbent resin powder and its production process and use, wherein the water-absorbent resin powder has high liquid permeability and high water absorbency. The production process for a water-absorbent resin powder, according to the present invention, comprises the step of obtaining water-absorbent crosslinked polymer particles by an aqueous solution polymerization step, and grinding the resultant crosslinked polymer particles until the bulk density thereof increases to not lower than 0.72 (g/ml). The water-absorbent resin powder is characterized by being arbitrarily pulverized and having a bulk density of not lower than 0.74 (g/ml) and a water absorption capacity of not lower than 20 (g/g) for 0.9 weight % physiological saline under a load of 0.7 psi (4.83 kPa). In addition, the absorbent structure comprises the above water-absorbent resin powder and a fibrous material. The absorbent article comprises an absorbent layer including the above absorbent structure.

    • The invention provides a hydrophilic resin and an absorbent article, both of which display still less coloring and discoloring when preserved for a long time. The hydrophilic resin is any one of: 1) a hydrophilic resin, obtained by a process including the step of polymerizing a monomer component including a major proportion of either one or both of acrylic acid and its salt which merely have a content of at most 0.20 ppm in total of hydroquinone and benzoquinone; 2) a hydrophilic resin, comprising a major proportion of an acrylic polymer and a minor proportion of either one or both of hydroquinone and benzoquinone, with the hydrophilic resin further comprising a quinhydronation inhibitor of 10˜1,000,000 times the total weight of hydroquinone and benzoquinone; 3) a hydrophilic resin, comprising a major proportion of an acrylic polymer and merely having a coloring degree (YI) of at most 20 after being left under conditions of the open system, 70° C., 65% RH for 1 week; and 4) a hydrophilic resin, which is a water-absorbent resin and is surface-crosslinked or surface-impregnated with a polyhydric alcohol and displays pH of 5.5 or less in a physiological salt solution and has an absorption capacity of 20 g/g or more for a physiological salt solution under a load of 50 g/cm2. In addition, the absorbent article comprises the above hydrophilic resin.
