    • A manufacturing apparatus for a cathode ray tube attaches an electron gun to a neck of a glass valve while grasping the neck with a chuck apparatus. The chuck apparatus has at least three chuck members, a chuck member holding unit and an interlocking unit. Each chuck member has a neck contacting surface that lies on a single plane that is parallel with a central axis of the neck. The chuck member holding unit holds the chuck members so as to allow movement of the neck contacting surface of each chuck member from a periphery of the neck toward the central axis of the neck. The interlocking unit causes an interlocked movement of the chuck members so that the neck contacting surface of each chuck member moves with an equal displacement toward the central axis of the neck.

    • According to the present invention, in an air conditioning apparatus setting a double laminar mode in which an inside air and an outside air are blown while being partitioned, when the maximum heating state is set during an air outlet mode in which air is blown out simultaneously from both of a foot opening portion toward feet of a passenger and a defroster opening portion toward a windshield, a passage for conditioned air is partitioned into a first air passage for the inside air and a second air passage for the outside air. The first air passage is communicated with the foot opening portion, and the second air passage is communicated with the defroster opening portion. In the double laminar mode, at an air downstream side of a heating heat exchanger, there is formed a communication path communicating between the first air passage and the second air passage, and an amount of the outside air at the side of the second air passage is set to be larger than that of the inside air at the side of the first air passage, so that the outside air in the second passage flows into the first air passage through the communication path. In this way, it is possible to improve a defrosting performance of the windshield.

    • A distributed feedback semiconductor laser diode includes an active layer for generating stimulated emission light and also includes a diffraction grating. The diffraction grating serves as a structure for providing a refractive index distribution and a gain distribution where the refractive index and the gain for the stimulated emission light exhibit a periodical change at an identical single period in the guiding direction of the stimulated emission light. A distributed feedback based on refractive index coupling and a distributed feedback based on gain coupling coexist in the distributed feedback semiconductor laser diode. The diffraction grating includes a phase discontinuous section where a phase of the periodical change of the refractive index and the gain is discontinuous. The phase discontinuous section is configured so that the phase shifts are within a range greater than 0 �rad! but less than .pi. �rad!, or within a range greater than .pi. �rad! but less than 2.pi. �rad!.
