    • Several embodiments of vehicles having automatic or manual speed control. The manual speed control permits the operator to control the speed of the engine and the automatic speed control is effective when a power takeoff shaft is being driven for automatic speed control under this condition. In each embodiment, the automatic speed control includes a governor that is driven only when the power shaft takeoff is being driven. In one embodiment, a throttle valve controls the engine speed and the manual and automatic speed controls alternatively operate the throttle valve through selectively engageable couplings that are operated in response to shifting into and out of the power takeoff mode. A number of other arrangements are also illustrated and described that provide different throttle valve arrangements for controlling the speed automatically or manually.

    • The invention relates to a scheme for correctly reading data pits with a reader even if an optical recording card is fed slantwise.If the optical recording card is slanted relative to a line sensor for reading the card, the line sensor may ride on two or more data pit columns. However, discriminator pits are formed at the start and end of each data pit column so that the data can be processed after deciding if the optical recording card is disposed slantwise or not.A relatively short data pit column with discriminator pits formed at the start and end thereof is used. A plurality of data pit columns are disposed with a guide bar interposed therebetween. A readout signal from the discriminator pits is used for deciding if the data pit column has been read correctly, whereas a strobe signal read from the guide bar is used for initiating a memory selector.

    • A governor mechanism particularly adapted for use in off the road vehicles wherein the governor is driven by an engine shaft other than the output shaft and one which is positioned in close proximity to the induction system for shortening the linkage interconnecting it to the engine speed control and for placing it in a location where it cannot become damaged. The governor is driven by the engine camshaft which operates the intake valve. In addition a disconnectable coupling is positioned between the governor shaft and the automatic speed control so that the governor can be driven continuously but the speed control can be selectively engaged and disengaged.

    • Disclosed is a method for producing an antimutagenic substance by using a lactic acid bacteria, which can produce the antimutagenic substance in a large quantity in an extremely simple manner and is economically advantageous; particularly a method for producing an antimutagenic substance effective for a carcinogenic substance, particularly a heterocyclic amine (HCA) which is a carcinogenic substance derived from a food, by using a lactic acid bacteria. Specifically disclosed is a method for producing an antimutagenic substance by using a lactic acid bacteria, which is characterized by suspending the lactic acid bacteria in a poorly nutrient or nutrient-free medium and leaving the lactic acid bacteria in the medium. Preferably, the poorly nutrient or nutrient-free medium is selected from the group consisting of physiological saline, a phosphate-buffered saline without a calcium or magnesium salt (PBS (−)), a citrate buffer, a distilled water, an ion-exchanged water, a natural water, a well water, a tap water, a mineral-added water, a vitamin-added water, an ion supply beverage for an athlete and the like. More preferably, the lactic acid bacteria is Lactobacillus plantarum strain KK-2503 or Lactobacillus alimentarius strain KN-15.
