    • An automatic seatbelt system in which a pair of sprocket wheels are driven by a single driving motor to move both shoulder and lap webbings in response to an occupant entering or leaving a vehicle. A flexible shoulder tape is connected to the shoulder webbing through a guide member slidable along a roof side of the vehicle, and extends along a vehicle body to mesh with one of the sprocket wheel. A flexible lap tape is connected to the lap webbing through a guide member slidable along an inner surface of a vehicle door, and extends along the vehicle door and body to mesh with the other of the sprocket wheel. When the sprocket wheels rotate, both shoulder and lap seatbelt webbings are simultaneously moved through the tapes toward either the front side of the vehicle to provide an enough space for the occupant to enter the vehicle, or the rear side of the vehicle to place the webbings over the occupant at a seat.

    • A steering device according to the present invention, wherein a steering shaft provided at the upper end thereof with a steering wheel is supported in a column tube fixed on a vehicle body, is of such an arrangement that: a cylindrical chamber is defined by a partition wall fixed on the inner surface of the column tube and through which the steering shaft extends and a piston fixed on a portion of the steering shaft downwardly of the partition wall, and a high pressure fluid generated by fluid pressure generating means for operating in a collision of the vehicle is filled in the cylindrical chamber, to thereby retract the steering shaft to a position of the lower end thereof.

    • A liquid crystal apparatus comprises: a liquid crystal device including a liquid crystal having a spontaneous polarization and causing a state change accompanied with a polarity inversion thereof within a response time. Drive means sequentially selects scanning signal lines each in a scanning selection period and applies data signal voltages to the pixels along an associated scanning signal line, wherein the scanning selection period for a scanning signal line is shorter than the response time for the liquid crystal at a pixel on the scanning signal line thus being liable to leave a remaining portion of polarity inversion to reach a desired state change, and the data signal voltage applied to the pixel is set to include a compensation voltage for compensating for a voltage decrease caused by the remaining portion of polarity inversion.
