    • Disclosed is a method for supporting a handover in a broadband wireless access communication system which includes a mobile subscriber station, a serving base station currently providing service to the mobile subscriber station, and a plurality of adjacent base stations different from the serving base station, in which each of the base stations includes cells using subchannel bands different from each other, the method including establishing a set of base stations which currently provide wireless channels for data transmission/reception to the mobile subscriber station; classifying, by each base station, entire subchannels into a plurality of sets of subchannels; and allocating each of the sets of subchannels obtained by the classification to a PUSC (Partial Usage of Subchannels) subchannel area of each sector, wherein, every base stations included in an active set select an equal number of PUSC subchannels from among a PUSC subchannel area allocated to each of the base stations and allocate the selected PUSC subchannels to the mobile subscriber station, and the mobile subscriber station receives a downlink signal transmitted through each of PUSC subchannel areas and performs a predetermined combining of all signals received from each of the BSs.

    • A method for generating a complex quasi-orthogonal code for channel spreading in a CDMA communication system is disclosed. The method comprises generating an M-sequence having a length N and a specific sequence having a good full correlation property with the M-sequence; generating a predetermined number of other specific sequences by circularly shifting said specific sequence; generating a predetermined number of other M-sequences by circularly shifting said M-sequence, and column permutating the circularly shifted specific sequences in a same method as a column permutation method for converting the generated M-sequences to Walsh orthogonal codes to generate candidate masks; generating quasi-orthogonal code representatives by operating the candidate masks and the Walsh orthogonal codes having the same length as the mask candidates; and selecting quasi-orthogonal code candidates satisfying a partial correlation between the Walsh orthogonal codes out of the generated quasi-orthogonal code representatives and a partial correlation between different quasi-orthogonal codes, and selecting masks pertinent to generating the selected quasi-orthogonal codes.

    • A method and an apparatus reduce power used when a traffic load is low in a base station of a wireless communication system. The base station monitors a traffic load. When the traffic load is lower than a predetermined threshold and a Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) mode is used to communicate with a mobile station, the MIMO mode is converted to a Single Input Multiple Output (SIMO) mode. The base station performs communication with the mobiles stations by using the SIMO mode. According to another embodiment, when the traffic load is lower than a predetermined threshold, the base station limits the number of Resource Blocks (RBs) that may be allocated to a coverage area of the base station. A Power Amplifier (PA) bias related to a transmission output of the base station is reduced based on the limited number of RBs, thereby saving power consumption of the base station.
