    • A system for implementing Incremental Redundancy (IR) operations in a wireless receiver includes a baseband processor, an equalizer, a system processor, a plurality of IR processing module registers, and an IR processing module. The baseband processor receives an analog signal and produces samples. The equalizer is operable to receive the samples, to equalize the samples, and to produce soft decision bits corresponding to the data block. The system processor receives the soft decision bits of the data block, configures the plurality of IR processing module registers, and initiates operations of the IR processing module. The IR processing module accesses the plurality of IR processing module registers, receives the soft decision bits of the data block, and performs IR operations on the soft decision bits of the data block in an attempt to correctly decode the data block.

    • An arrangement where, in addition to the control channels that are used to set up sessions, there is a logically and physically separate and independent set of control channels that can be used as session control channels. Illustratively, the physical GSM frame arrangement that employs 8 logical slots is used, with one slot both in the uplink and downlink dedicated to these separate control channels. In the downlink, such a control channel provides channel grant information, requests to make and transmit power measurements, poll mobile units, etc. In the uplink, such a control channel can be used to request access to a traffic channel, to report on power measurements, to request special hand-off handling, to respond to polling, etc. Because the uplink session control channel does not need to carry a significant amount of information, the GSM slot can be divided into minislots, with each minislot constituting a session control channel for a group of mobile units.

    • A UE receives HSDPA traffic comprising legacy HSDPA traffic and HS-SCCH-less HSDPA traffic. The UE concurrently processes the received legacy HSDPA traffic and the received HS-SCCH-less HSDPA traffic. The received HSDPA traffic is concurrently buffered into a first storage and a second storage to support simultaneously receiving legacy HSDPA traffic and HS-SCCH-less HSDPA traffic. A HARQ process is performed on the buffered HSDPA traffic in the first storage or the second storage according to a corresponding HS-SCCH CRC test. The resulting HARQ processed HSDPA traffic is Turbo decoded. Turbo decoding on the previously HARQ processed HSDPA traffic is performed simultaneously with HARQ processing on the buffered HSDPA traffic in the first storage or the second storage. The buffered HS-SCCH-less HSDPA traffic is processed via HARQ processing and Turbo decoding for each of the four pre-determined transport formats.

    • In a video processing system, a method and system for dynamically configurable DCT/IDCT module in a wireless handset are provided. A processor may be used to configure a quantization scheme and video format mode of operation and to configure a processing network in a DCT/IDCT module. The mode of operation may depend on whether the received video signal is in JPEG, MPEG, and/or H.263 format. The processing network may be configured into a DCT processing network configuration or an IDCT processing network configuration based on whether the received video signal is to be encoded or decoded respectively. The DCT/IDCT module may comprise a FIFO, an adder/subtractor, a multiplier/accumulator, a plurality of digital dividers, and a de-quantizer. The plurality of digital dividers may comprise a 12-bit divider and an 7-bit divider. The mode and configuration modifications may be dynamically performed during operation of the wireless handset.
