    • There is disclosed apparatus and methodology for enhancing computer system data transfer when writing to network attached storage systems employing FC-2 fibrechannel protocol by dynamically reconfiguring a fibrechannel switch in response to map/unmap command controls issued by a disk drive aggregator. The reconfiguration involves fabrication of a dynamic map table having sets of fibrechannel FC-2 header fields and their corresponding new or proxy destination IDs (which correspond to the switch's output ports), and fabrication of both an input frame header buffer for temporary storage purposes and a frame header field selector (which can be a frame header mask) containing only relevant information. The input frame header is temporarily stored in the buffer and the field selector is used to obtain a “distilled” input header which is compared with the dynamic map table of stored header fields to obtain a match. If one of the sets of header fields matches the distilled input header, its corresponding proxy destination or source ID is substituted into the corresponding FC-2 input frame header's destination ID field, whereby write command data transfers are accomplished between host computer and a particular disk drive directly, avoiding the aggregator and latency otherwise introduced by the aggregator. Similar disclosure is provided for read command data.

    • The present invention is described by an electronic program guide with a calendar tool, and a method and apparatus for transmitting and receiving the electronic program guide. The apparatus includes a transmission station and a plurality of receiver stations. The transmission station creates program guide data that is in an “object” format. The transmission station combines the program guide objects with digital audio and video television signals, and transmits an output stream to the plurality of receiver stations. Each of the plurality of receiver stations stores electronic program guide objects. Using data from the electronic program guide objects, the plurality of receiver stations generate a listing of television program representations, and a calendar image separate from and adjacent to the plurality of television program representations. The calendar image includes a selection indicator for selecting a date and time, and includes a plurality of program indicators that provide indications of the dates on which a set of television programs will be broadcast.

    • A dynamically upgradeable disk array chassis, and a method for dynamically upgrading a data storage system. The dynamically upgradeable disk array chassis includes a serial bus having a first bus for passing data in one direction and a second bus for passing data in the opposite direction. A shunt connects the first and second buses in a normal state. The shunt has a switched state in which each of the first and second buses is coupled to a separate output from the chassis. The chassis includes an environmental monitor connected to a communication path. Upon connecting a new disk array chassis to an active disk array chassis, the environmental monitor communicates through the communication path before switching the shunt to connect the serial bus with the serial bus of the new disk array chassis. The disk array chassis may include a diplexer for connecting the communication path to the separate outputs of the shunt and for combining the communication path signals with the serial path signals in one direction and for separating these signals in the other direction. The environmental monitor path communications and the serial bus communications can take place over a single twinax cable.
