摘要： An apparatus and method for the transfer of voice traffic in a Voice over Digital Subscriber Line (VoDSL) gateway are disclosed, which are capable of transferring the voice traffic without use of a central processing unit (CPU). The gateway provides an interface between an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) network and a public switched telephone network (PSTN). The gateway includes a first ATM interface that communicates an ATM cell signal with the ATM network, a vocoder that communicates a voice signal with the PSTN by a channel, and a time division multiplex (TDM) bus that communicates a voice traffic signal between the first ATM interface and the vocoder.
