    • A metal laminate gasket of the invention is used for an internal combustion engine formed of a cylinder head and a cylinder block. The gasket is basically formed of two metal plates laminated together. The gasket has a rectangular shape, and includes a plurality of cylinder bores arranged in a longitudinal direction of the gasket, and a plurality of bolt holes arranged to surround the cylinder bores. The gasket has two lateral side portions, each being defined between a lateral edge and a line linking centers of bolt holes located adjacent to the lateral edge. At least two edge support beads are integrally formed on at least one of the plates. The edge support beads are formed at the lateral side portions to substantially completely support tightening pressure of the bolts applied to the lateral side portions. Thus, deformation of the cylinder head is prevented, and substantially equal tightening pressure can be formed around the entire cylinder bores.

The gasket is formed of a plurality of metal plates to constitute a metal laminate gasket. Each metal plate includes a side edge extending at least along the outer profile of the engine, a gasket hole having a size substantially equal to that of the hole of the engine, and an elongated portion located between the side edge and the gasket hole. The metal plates are immovably fixed together at the elongated portions to prevent the elongated portions from deforming outwardly of the engine.

The second plate has a second hole larger than the sealing device, and a support bead around the second hole. When the first and second plates are assembled, the second plate does not pile the sealing device, while the support bead is located under the wide bead. When the gasket is tightened, the sealing device seals around the hole, and also, the support bead supports the wide bead to widely seal around the hole.

The second plate has a second hole larger than the first sealing device, and a second sealing device around the second hole. When the first and second plates are assembled, the second plate does not pile over the first sealing device. When the gasket is tightened, the second sealing device is at first compressed by tightening force and deforming force of the inclined portion to thereby equally tighten the second sealing device.

The gasket basically comprises a first plate, a third plate, and a second plate situated between the first and third plates. The third plate includes a flat solid portion situated under the embossed portion. When the gasket is tightened, the solid portion receives and supports tightening pressure to seal around the hole, and the side wall forms a secondary seal therearound.
