    • A vibratory conveying apparatus including a material carrying member having a material supporting surface is disclosed. The apparatus includes first and second vibrators for producing first and second vibratory forces for imparting movement to the material carrying member at first and second acute angles to the material supporting surface. The vibratory forces of the first and second vibrators each have a vertical force component as well as a horizontal force component for imparting movement to a material on the material supporting surface in the first and second directions relative to the material supporting surface. The apparatus also includes an actuator for controlling the first and second vibrators in such manner as to impart controlled movement to the material relative to the material supporting surface in the first direction, the second direction, or vertically. In a preferred embodiment, the vibratory conveying apparatus is able to vary the angle of attack and direction of the material relative to the material supporting surface.

    • A material separating apparatus for separating particles up to a preselected size from a material having particles of different sizes therein includes a trough having a material input end longitudinally spaced from a material discharge end. The apparatus also includes a separator having a plurality of longitudinally spaced finger screen sections between the input end and the discharge end and along the longitudinal axis of the trough. The finger screen sections each have a backbone extending from side to side across the width of the trough and also each have forwardly extending fingers connected at one end to the backbone. The fingers are spaced side by side from each other by a preselected amount at forward ends thereof sufficient to allow particles up to the preselected size to pass through the fingers as the trough is vibrated to cause the material to move from the input end to the discharge end. The finger screen devices also each have the forward ends of the fingers thereof overlapping the next forwardly adjacent finger screen device and include a rearwardly depending leg connected at one end to the backbone thereof. The apparatus further includes the forward ends of the fingers being vertically spaced above the next forwardly adjacent finger screen device by an amount equal to the preselected amount of spacing therebetween. With this arrangement, the material is conveyed along the trough and over successive ones of the finger screen sections with particles up to the preselected size falling through the finger screen as the material moves from the input end to the discharge end of the trough.

    • The invention relates to a structure for controllably discharging articles that are being continuously transported by a primary conveying structure. A discharge assembly is provided having a chute with an inlet and an outlet. Articles are diverted away from the primary conveying structure and delivered to the chute inlet. The discharge chute is mounted for rotation about a vertical axis and structure is provided for reciprocatively moving the chute outlet back and forth over an infeed portion of a secondary conveying structure to evenly distribute material in a serpentine path along the length of the infeed portion of the secondary conveying structure. In a preferred form, the secondary conveying structure has an associated trough for containing a cooling fluid.

    • According to the invention, a vibratory apparatus is provided having a deck resiliently mounted relative to a surface bearing the vibratory apparatus, a clamp support for a casting on the deck, and a piston freely movably mounted relative to the deck. Vibration imparting structure vibrates the deck to shake out and to loosen foreign matter adhered to the casting supported on the deck and simultaneously reciprocates and ricochets the piston relative to the deck to further shake out and loosen foreign matter on the casting. A hammer plate is provided on the deck in the path of the piston. As the vibration imparting structure is operated, the piston is intermittently forcibly driven against the hammer plate to set up a different frequency of vibration than the frequency of the primary vibratory apparatus which enhances the shake out and cleaning function of the structure.

    • A vibratory particle separation apparatus of the type having a two plateau conveying surface interrupted by a drop-out opening. A composite mixture is conveyed by a vibrating action beyond the upper plateau and over the drop-out opening. An air supply is directed angularly in relationship to the plane of the upper plateau and breaks apart the composite mixture and propels particles of a predetermined density and/or dimension to the landing area on the second level. In another aspect of the invention, the landing area is adjustable angularly with respect to the plane of the upper plateau of the conveying surface and is translatable to constrict or enlarge the dimensions of the drop-out opening. The particles passing through the drop-out opening and not intercepted by the landing area exit the system.

    • A system for varying the vibration generating force of a rotating eccentric weight by providing a second weight movable from a position on one side of the axis of rotation of the eccentric weight to a second position on the opposite side of the axis of rotation, the movement being linear and radially across said axis of rotation. In addition, a spring may be employed to move the movable weight toward the second position initially, in compression, and later to resist additional movement in said direction, in tension, so as to provide basically a linear system for varying the vibrational force. Fluid pressure may be applied to the movable weight which pressure will combine with the tension in the spring to move the movable weight against centrifugal force and toward the axis of rotation of the wheel. Once the center of gravity of the weight passes the axis of rotation, further fluid pressure on the movable weight will act against the compression of the spring and will combine with the centrifugal force to move the movable weight radially outward from the axis of rotation.
